Abstract
Abstract Novel rubber compounding ingredients are disclosed. The ingredients, which may be used in a wide variety of rubber compounds having siliceous fillers comprise certain N-substituted melamines which act as silica coupling agents. The melamines bind both to the siliceous filler and to the rubber network to increase the reinforcement effect of the silica. Use of the melamines of the invention reduces the cost of producing the rubber when compared to rubbers containing prior art silica coupling agents.
