Claim 1
Independent Claim
142 words
A method for the manufacture of packing material by lamination of paper and plastics, comprising the steps of fixing the layers included in the laminate to one another with a binder, coating at least a side of the laminate which is intended to constitute the inside of the finished packages with a layer of polyethylene, coating the polyethylene layer of the said laminate with a thin plastic layer which covers the whole polyethylene layer surface, said thin plastic layer being applied by extrusion such that the contact zone between the polyethylene coating layer and the thin plastic layer remains sterile, the adhesion between the coating layer and the thin plastic layer remaining sufficiently low such that surface fusion of the polyethylene layer and the thin plastic layer does not occur, the layers being attached to one another in a separable, bacteriatight manner.

Claim 3
Dependent Claim
74 words
The method for the manufacture of packing material in accordance with claim 5, wherein said thin plastic layer is applied to the polyethylene coating layer at a temperature which is so high that the contact zone between the polyethylene coating layer and the thin plastic layer is heated at all points to a temperature exceeding 140° C., the temperature between the two plastic layers being sufficiently low to avoid surface fusion of the materials.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim
89 words
The method for the manufacture of packing material in accordance with claim 5, wherein the polyethylene coating layer of the laminate and the thin plastic layer are applied to the packing material in a joint co-extrusion operation, said co-extrusion operation being carried out at such a temperature and with a plastic material of the thin plastic film that the contact zone between the two plastic materials remains sterile, but the adhesion between the co-extruded layers remains sufficiently low such that the layers can easily be separated from one another.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim
107 words
The method for the manufacture of packing material in accordance with claim 5, wherein the polyethylene coating layer and the application of the thin plastic layer are carried out in two separate but successive extrusion operations, an area of the packing material web between an extruder for supplying the polyethylene and an extruder for supplying the material for the thin plastic layer being covered and screened off by a hood, and circulating a sterile gas in said hood such that the polyethylene coating layer of the material web is covered with the sterile gas until the thin plastic layer has been applied over the polyethylene coating layer.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim
20 words
The method for the manufacture of packing material in accordance with claim 1, wherein the thin plastic layer is polypropylene.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim
22 words
The method for the manufacture of packing material in accordance with claim 1, wherein the laminate includes an internal gas barrier layer.
