Total Claims: 8
Claim 1
Independent Claim
77 words
A method of controlling and treating dermatitis in humans caused by exposure of the skin to a plant of the genus Rhus which comprises the topical application of an effective amount of an allergen-imbibing, allergen-retaining polymer wherein said polymer is a crosslinked copolymer of isobornyl acrylate, isobornyl methacrylate, styrene, or alkylstyrene and at least one ester of a C 8 to C 20 fatty alcohol with acrylic or methacrylic acid, crosslinked with a polyethylenically unsaturated crosslinking agent.
Claim 2
Claim 3
Dependent Claim
68 words
The method of claim 1 wherein the polymer is a copolymer of from about 60 to about 90 percent by weight of a tertiary-alkylstyrene and at least one ester of a C 8 to C 20 fatty alcohol with acrylic or methacrylic acid, crosslinked with from about 0.001 to about 0.1 percent (based on the total weight of said tertiary-alkylstyrene and ester) of a polyethylenically unsaturated crosslinking agent.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim
10 words
The method of claim 1 wherein the tertiary-alkylstyrene is tertiary-butylstyrene.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim
11 words
The method of claim 3 wherein the crosslinking agent is divinylbenzene.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim
21 words
The method of claim 3 wherein the tertiary-alkylstyrene is tertiary-butylstyrene and the ester is a C 8 to C 20 methacrylate.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim
15 words
The method of claim 5 wherein the polymer is a copolymer of tertiary-butylstyrene and laurylmethacrylate.
Claim 8
Independent Claim
27 words
The method of claims 1, 2 or 6 wherein the polymer is applied in combination with a pharmaceutically-acceptable carrier in a polymeric composition suitable for topical application.
