Abstract

Abstract Mixtures of aromatic polyols containing ester functionalities suitable for use in rigid polyurethane and polyisocyanurate foams are described. The mixtures are prepared by reacting a polyethylene terephthalate (PET) residue with an alkylene oxide in the presence of a basic catalyst. These novel polyol mixtures may be blended with conventional polyols to yield rigid foams with better flammability resistance as compared with foams made from conventional polyols alone.
