Abstract Liquid crystal material containing a disazo dyestuff of formula ##STR1## in which R 1 designates alkyl, aralkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl, alkylsulphonyl, aralkylsulphonyl, cycloalkylsulphonyl, arylsulphonyl, acyl or a R--NH--CO-- or R--O--CO-- group, in which R represents alkyl, aralkyl, cycloalkyl or aryl, it being possible for the radicals mentioned for R 1 to be substituted, and n is 0 or 1, Y designates --O--, R 2 has one of the meanings given above for R 1 , if n=1, or is hydrogen, if n=0, and R 3 , R 4 , R 5 and R 6 designate hydrogen, optionally substituted alkyl, alkoxy, halogen or cyano.
