Abstract

Abstract A process is described for the production of D-glucosone from glucose. An aqueous solution of glucose is converted substantially completely to D-glucosone by an enzymatic oxidation while removing or utilizing co-produced hydrogen peroxide. D-glucosone is a useful intermediate product which may then be converted to a desired end product.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 14
Claim 1
Independent Claim 44 words
A method for making D-glucosone from glucose, comprising, providing an aqueous solution of glucose, and converting at least about 95% of the glucose in solution to D-glucosone in solution by enzymatic oxidation with a cell free enzyme while removing or utilizing co-produced hydrogen peroxide.
Claim 2
Independent Claim 44 words
A method for making D-glucosone from glucose, comprising, providing an aqueous solution of glucose, and converting at least about 95% of the glucose in solution to D-glucosone in solution by enzymatic oxidation with a cell free enzyme while removing or utilizing co-produced hydrogen peroxide.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 16 words
A method according to claim 1 wherein the D-glucosone is further converted to an end product.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 23 words
A method according to claim 2 wherein the D-glucosone in solution is recovered as a syrup and is resolubilized in an organic solvent.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 12 words
A method according to claim 2 wherein the end product is D-fructose.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 13 words
A method according to claim 2 wherein the end product is 2-keto-D-gluconic acid.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 15 words
A method according to claim 1 wherein the enzyme comprises an oxidoreductase having glucose-2-oxidase activity.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 25 words
A method according to claim 6 wherein the enzyme is selected from the group consisting of glucose-2-oxidase from Aspergillus oryzae and pyranose-2-oxidase from Polyporus obtusus.

Claim 11
Dependent Claim 15 words
A method according to claim 1 wherein the hydrogen peroxide is utilized in a co-process.
Claim 12
Independent Claim 51 words
A method for making D-glucosone from glucose, comprising, providing an aqueous solution of glucose, and converting at least about 95% of the glucose in solution to D-glucosone in solution by utilizing an immobilized cell free oxidoreductase enzyme having or utilizing co-produced hydrogen peroxide, and recovering the D-glucosone in substantially pure form.
Claim 13
Independent Claim 51 words
A method for making D-glucosone from glucose, comprising, providing an aqueous solution of glucose, and converting at least about 95% of the glucose in solution to D-glucosone in solution by utilizing an immobilized cell free oxidoreductase enzyme having or utilizing co-produced hydrogen peroxide, and recovering the D-glucosone in substantially pure form.
Claim 14
Dependent Claim 14 words
A method according to claim 11 which is carried out in a column reactor.
