Abstract

Abstract A printing member for electrostatic photocopying, comprises a substrate having a conductive surface and a photoelectric-sensitive, electrically chargeable layer deposited on the conductive surface of the substrate. The electrically chargeable layer has a non-single crystal semiconductor layer having a built-in-potential, or the non-single crystal semiconductor layer and an insulating or semi-insulating layer.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 6
Claim 1
Independent Claim 169 words
A printing member for electrostatic photocopying comprising: a substrate having a conductive surface; and a photoelectrically-sensitive, electrically chargeable layer on the conductive surface of the substrate; wherein the photoelectrically-sensitive, electrically chargeable layer has a non-single-crystalline semiconductor layer on the conductive surface of the substrate and an insulating or semi-insulating layer formed on the non-single-crystalline semiconductor layer; wherein the non-single-crystalline semiconductor layer is formed principally of Si 3 N 4-x (0<x<4) and has a first layer on the side of the substrate and a second layer on the first layer to create a transition region; wherein the first layer is P or N type, the second layer is I type, and the transition region is PI or NI type depending on whether the first layer is P or N type; wherein the energy band gap of the first layer is equal to or less than the energy band gap of the second layer which in turn is much less than the energy band gap of the insulating or semi-insulating layer.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 169 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 34 words
A printing member according to claim 1 wherein the second layer has an energy band gap ranging from 2.0 to 3.0 eV, the Si 3 N 4-x containing 10 to 50 mol% of nitrogen.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 41 words
A printing member according to claim 1 wherein the insulating or semi-insulating layer is formed principally of Si 3 N 4-x (0<x<4) or SiC 1-x (0<x<1), with the value of x alternatively being 0≦x<4 in the case of the insulating layer.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 32 words
A printing member according to claim 1 wherein the insulating or semi-insulating layer is an insulating layer formed of Si 3 N 4 and having a thickness of 30 to 100 Å.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 33 words
A printing member according to claim 1 wherein the insulating or semi-insulating layer is a semi-insulating layer formed of the Si 3 N 4-x and having a thickness of 50 to 500 Å.
