Abstract

Abstract A method is provided for electroinitiating cationic polymerization on the surface of a metal substrate or a metallized nonconducting substrate. The conducting substrate is used as the anode in an electrolyzed bath of a cationically polymerizable organic material, and an effective amount of an arylonium salt, such as diphenyliodonium hexafluorophosphate. An organic solvent also can be used.
