Abstract
Abstract A process for producing a coated aromatic polycarbonate formed article having improved surface properties which comprises forming a primer layer containing a specific thermoplastic acrylic copolymer and an ultraviolet light absorbent on an aromatic polycarbonate formed article, and forming a protective topcoat comprising a thermoset organopolysiloxane on said primed polycarbonate article is disclosed. The coated aromatic polycarbonate formed article has excellent surface properties, such as weather resistance.

In a process for producing a coated aromatic polycarbonate formed article having improved surface properties which comprises: forming a primer layer containing a thermoplastic acrylic copolymer and an ultraviolet light absorbent on an aromatic polycarbonate formed article, and forming a protective topcoat comprising a thermoset organopolysiloxane on said primed polycarbonate article, the improvement characterized in that said acrylic copolymer is a copolymer of an alkyl methacrylate and an alkyl acrylate having an average molecular weight of above 50,000, determined from top peak in gel permeation chromatograph.
