Claim 3
Independent Claim
327 words
A method of making an electrical connector assembly for use in making an electrical interconnection with a printed circuit board, the board being of the type comprising a planar edge including electrical circuit paths formed on both sides thereof, the electrical connector assembly including a body of molded dielectric material having a plurality of passages extending therethrough from a front face to a rear face and further including a plurality of electrical contacts, each electrical contact being of the type having a body portion at one end thereof and adapted for connection in electrical circuit relationship with another electrical contact and a termination portion extending from the body portion and adapted for connection in electrical circuit relation with respective of said electrical circuit paths, the steps of the method comprising: molding first and second sets of passages so as to provide said plurality of passages, each passage having a medial position between the front and rear faces and including an elongated channel portion extending inwardly along a first longitudinal axis from its opening on the front face to the medial position and a groove portion extending inwardly along a second longitudinal axis from the rear face to the medial position so as to be in communication with the channel portion, each second longitudinal axis being disposed at an acute angle to its first longitudinal axis and the first and second sets of passages, respectively, including their second longitudinal axes being coparallel inserting the contacts into their respective passages so that the body portions are received in respective of said channel portions and the termination portions are received in respective of said groove portions and extend beyond the rear face of the body, and bending the termination portions of the contact so that the ends of the termination portions extending beyond the rear face form first and second parallel and spaced apart rows of contact arms for making interconnection with the printed circuit board circuit paths inserted therebetween.
