Claim 1
Independent Claim
186 words
The method of controlling the operational states of a data acquisition instrument comprising: storing a sequence of a plurality of digital control words in a sequence of a plurality of memory registers comprising at least initial and final memory registers, said registers adapted for serial transfer of the contents thereof, each said digital word comprising at least a first and second portion thereof, said plurality of registers exceeding said plurality of digital words, propagating said stored sequence of digital words in serial fashion along said sequence of registers, said propagation including transfer of said sequence of words from said final register of said sequence of registers to an output register, establishing the state of said instrument in response to said first portion of the word transferred into said output register, maintaining the established state of said intrument for a time interval determined in response to the second portion of the said transferred digital word, transferring the word transferred into said output register to said initial one said memory registers of said sequence of said plurality of memory registers, whereby said sequence of digital words is preserved.
Claim 2
Claim 3
Dependent Claim
40 words
The method of claim 1 comprising consecutively repeating the step of establishing the state of said instrument a selected number of times specified in accord with the content of a third portion of the transferred digital word of said sequence.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim
41 words
The method of claim 2 comprising: counting the number of complete repetitions of said sequence of digital words, and terminating the operation of said instrument in response to the coincidence of said number of complete repetitions counted with said selected number.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim
19 words
The method of claim 1 including the step of using said first and second portions from the same word.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim
21 words
The method of claim 4 including the step of using said third portion from the same word as said second portion.
