Claim 1
Independent Claim
206 words
A vending machine control circuit, comprising: a. a plurality of switch means for enabling a customer to indicate his choice of a product to be vended; b. logic means, coupled to said plurality of switch means and being responsive thereto, for controlling the vending of products by the generation of vend signals; c. a plurality of vend actuation means, responsive to said vend signals from said logic means, for vending a plurality of products; d. a plurality of out-of-product switches, each switch having a pair of cooperating contact elements and one switch being provided for each vend means with its electrical contact elements being electrically connected in series with the vend means and being opened by the absence of product for that vend means, such that each switch prevents current from flowing through its associated vend means when an out-of-product condition exists therefor; and e. a common current sensing circuit for all of the vend means for detecting current flowing through each vend means when it is activated by said logic means, whereby the absence of current flowing through a vend means when the vend signal is generated therefor indicates the out-of-product switch associated with that vend means is open and an out-of-product condition exists therefor.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim
Claim 3
Dependent Claim
22 words
A vending machine control circuit as claimed in claim 1, said plurality of vend actuating means including a plurality of vend solenoids.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim
36 words
A vending machine control circuit as claimed in claims 1 or 2, said common current sensing circuit including a current threshold detecting circuit for detecting the presence of an electrical current above a given threshold value.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim
82 words
A vending machine control circuit as claimed in claim 3, said logic means including means for supplying a current pulse having a predetermined short time duration to each solenoid, with the time duration being sufficiently short that it does not actuate the vend solenoid and result in a vend of a product, but does enable an open condition of the out-of-product switch associated with the solenoid to be determined by the absence of a short pulse of current flowing through the solenoid.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim
62 words
A vending machine control circuit as claimed in claim 1, comprising: a power supply for the plurality of vend actuation means; and isolation circuit means coupling said logic means to said plurality of vend actuation means, including a plurality of optically coupled isolators, one for each vend actuation means, for isolating the logic means from the power supply driving the vend means.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim
38 words
A vending machine control circuit as claimed in claim 5, including a plurality of triacs, one for each optically coupled isolator and being responsive to a signal therefrom to generate an actuating signal for a vend actuation means.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim
22 words
A vending machine control circuit as claimed in either of claims 5 or 6, each vend actuation means including a vend solenoid.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim
72 words
A vending machine control circuit as claimed in claim 7: (a) said plurality of switch means including a switch panel having a plurality of capacitively coupled switches thereon; (b) a strobe generator, responsive to actuating signals from said logic means, for generating strobe signals for said switch panel; and (c) said logic means including a parallel to serial shift register for entering therein the status of the plurality of capacitively coupled switches.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim
66 words
A vending machine control circuit as claimed in claim 1 or 2, each of said out-of-product switches comprising a single pole, single throw of switch which is closed to allow current to flow to an associated vend actuation means when product is present in the machine and is open to interrupt the flow of current to an associated vend actuation means when as out-of-product condition exists.
