Silver halide photographic emulsions

Claim 2

A light-sensitive silver halide photographic emulsion comprising a sensitizing dye represented by formula (I) and a sensitizing dye represented by formula (II): ##STR8## wherein R 1 and R 2 are each a substituted or unsubstituted alkyl group, and at least one of R 1 and R 2 is a sulfoalkyl group or a carboxyalkyl group; R is an alkyl group or an aralkyl group; W 1 , W 2 , W 3 and W 4 are each a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom, an aryl group, an alkyl group, a substituted alkyl group, an alkoxy group, an alkoxycarbonyl group, a carboxy group or a hydroxy group, and W 1 and W 2 are not phenyl groups at the same time; X is an acid anion; n is 1 or 2, and when the sensitizing dye forms an intramolecular salt, n is 1; R 4 and R 5 are each a substituted or unsubstituted alkyl group, and at least one of R 4 and R 5 is a sulfoalkyl group or a carboxyalkyl group; R 3 is an ethyl group, a propyl group or an aralkyl group; V 1 , V 2 , V 3 , V 4 , V 5 , V 6 and V 7 are each a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom, an aryl group, an alkyl group, a substituted alkyl group, an alkoxy group, an alkoxycarbonyl group, a carboxy group or a hydroxy group, and V 1 and V 2 , V 2 and V 3 , V 3 and V 4 , V 5 and V 6 or V 6 and V 7 may combine together to form a benzene ring;

Claim 3

X 1 is an acid anion; m is 1 or 2, and when the sensitizing dye forms an intramolecular salt, m is 1; and the number of carbon atoms contained in the alkyl group or alkyl radical is 1 to 4 wherein the sensitizing dyes of formula (II) and formula (I) are present in a molar ratio of 1:2 to 10:1.

Claim 4

X 1 is an acid anion; m is 1 or 2, and when the sensitizing dye forms an intramolecular salt, m is 1; and the number of carbon atoms contained in the alkyl group or alkyl radical is 1 to 4 wherein the sensitizing dyes of formula (II) and formula (I) are present in a molar ratio of 1:2 to 10:1.

Claim 5

The light-sensitive silver halide photographic emulsion as claimed in claim 1, wherein R 1 and R 2 are independently an alkyl group, a hydroxyalkyl group, a carboxyalkyl group, a sulfoalkyl group, a vinylmethyl group, an aralkyl group, or a substituted aralkyl group.

Claim 6

The light-sensitive silver halide photographic emulsion as claimed in claim 1, wherein R 1 and R 2 are independently a methyl group, an ethyl group, a propyl group, a butyl group, a 2-hydroxyethyl group, a 3-hydroxypropyl group, a carboxymethyl group, a 2-carboxyethyl group, a 3-carboxypropyl group, a 2-sulfoethyl group, a 3-sulfopropyl group, a 3-sulfobutyl group, a 4-sulfobutyl group, a vinylmethyl group, a phenethyl group, a phenylpropyl group, a phenylbutyl group, a p-sulfobenzyl group, a p-sulfophenethyl group or a p-carboxybenzyl group.

Claim 7

The light-sensitive silver halide photographic emulsion as claimed in claim 1, wherein R is an ethyl group, a phenethyl group or a benzyl group.

Claim 8

The light-sensitive silver halide photographic emulsion as claimed in claim 1, wherein R is an ethyl group.

Claim 9

The light-sensitive silver halide photographic emulsion as claimed in claim 1, wherein R 4 and R 5 are independently an alkyl group, a hydroxyalkyl group, a carboxyalkyl group, a sulfoalkyl group, a vinylmethyl group, an aralkyl group, or a substituted aralkyl group.

Claim 10

The light-sensitive silver halide photographic emulsion as claimed in claim 1, wherein R 4 and R 5 are independently a methyl group, an ethyl group, a propyl group, a butyl group, a 2-hydroxyethyl group, a 3-hydroxypropyl group, a carboxymethyl group, a 2-carboxyethyl group, a 3-carboxypropyl group, a 2-sulfoethyl group, a 3-sulfopropyl group, a 3-sulfobutyl group, a 4-sulfobutyl group, a vinylmethyl group, a phenethyl group, a phenylpropyl group, a phenylbutyl group, a p-sulfobenzyl group, a p-sulfophenethyl group or a p-carboxybenzyl group.

Claim 11

The light-sensitive silver halide photographic emulsion as claimed in claim 1, wherein W 1 and W 2 are independently a chlorine atom, a phenyl group, a methyl group, a methoxy group or a trifluoromethyl group.

Claim 12

The light-sensitive silver halide photographic emulsion as claimed in claim 1, wherein W 3 and W 4 are independently a hydrogen atom.

Claim 13

The light-sensitive silver halide photographic emulsion as claimed in claim 1, wherein said sensitizing dye represented by formula (I) is [I-1, I-3, I-4, I-9 or I-10] ##STR9##

Claim 14

The light-sensitive silver halide photographic emulsion as claimed in claim 1, wherein said sensitizing dye represented by formula (II) is ##STR10##

Claim 15

The light-sensitive silver halide photographic emulsion as claimed in claim 1 further comprising a color coupler.

Claim 16

The light-sensitive silver halide photographic emulsion as claimed in claim 12, wherein the color coupler is a magenta coupler.

Claim 17

The light-sensitive silver halide photographic emulsion as claimed in claim 13, wherein the magenta coupler is a 2-equivalent coupler.

Claim 18

A silver halide color photographic light-sensitive element comprising a support having thereon at least one lightsensitive emulsion layer comprising a sensitizing dye represented by formula (I) and a sensitizing dye represented by formula (II): ##STR11## wherein R 1 and R 2 are each a substituted or unsubstituted alkyl group, and at least one of R 1 and R 2 is a sulfoalkyl group or a carboxyalkyl group; R is an alkyl group or an aralkyl group; W 1 , W 2 , W 3 and W 4 are each a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom, an aryl group, an alkyl group, a substituted alkyl group, an alkoxy group, an alkoxycarbonyl group, a carboxy group or an hydroxy group, and W 1 and W 2 are not phenyl groups at the same time; X is an acid anion; n is 1 or 2, and when the sensitizing dye forms an intramolecular salt, n is 1; R 4 and R 5 are each a substituted or unsubstituted alkyl group, and at least one of R 4 and R 5 is a sulfoalkyl group or a carboxyalkyl group; R 3 is an ethyl group, a propyl group or an aralkyl group; V 1 , V 2 , V 3 , V 4 , V 5 , V 6 and V 7 are each a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom, an aryl group, an alkyl group, a substituted alkyl group, an alkoxy group, an alkoxycarbonyl group, a carboxy group or a hydroxy group; X 1 is an acid anion; m is 1 or 2, and when the sensitizing dye forms an intramolecular salt, m is 1; and the number of carbon atoms contained in the alkyl group or alkyl radical is 1 to 4 wherein the sensitizing dyes represented by formula (II) and formula (I) are present in a molar ratio of 1:2 to 10:1.

Claim 19

A silver halide color photographic light-sensitive element comprising a support having thereon at least one lightsensitive emulsion layer comprising a sensitizing dye represented by formula (I) and a sensitizing dye represented by formula (II): ##STR11## wherein R 1 and R 2 are each a substituted or unsubstituted alkyl group, and at least one of R 1 and R 2 is a sulfoalkyl group or a carboxyalkyl group; R is an alkyl group or an aralkyl group; W 1 , W 2 , W 3 and W 4 are each a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom, an aryl group, an alkyl group, a substituted alkyl group, an alkoxy group, an alkoxycarbonyl group, a carboxy group or an hydroxy group, and W 1 and W 2 are not phenyl groups at the same time; X is an acid anion; n is 1 or 2, and when the sensitizing dye forms an intramolecular salt, n is 1; R 4 and R 5 are each a substituted or unsubstituted alkyl group, and at least one of R 4 and R 5 is a sulfoalkyl group or a carboxyalkyl group; R 3 is an ethyl group, a propyl group or an aralkyl group; V 1 , V 2 , V 3 , V 4 , V 5 , V 6 and V 7 are each a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom, an aryl group, an alkyl group, a substituted alkyl group, an alkoxy group, an alkoxycarbonyl group, a carboxy group or a hydroxy group; X 1 is an acid anion; m is 1 or 2, and when the sensitizing dye forms an intramolecular salt, m is 1; and the number of carbon atoms contained in the alkyl group or alkyl radical is 1 to 4 wherein the sensitizing dyes represented by formula (II) and formula (I) are present in a molar ratio of 1:2 to 10:1.

Claim 20

The silver halide photographic light-sensitive element as claimed in claim 15, wherein R 1 and R 2 are independently an alkyl group, a hydroxyalkyl group, a carboxyalkyl group, a sulfoalkyl group, a vinylmethyl group, an aralkyl group, or a substituted aralkyl group.

Claim 21

The silver halide photographic light-sensitive element as claimed in claim 15, wherein R 1 and R 2 are independently a methyl group, an ethyl group, a propyl group, a butyl group, a 2-hydroxyethyl group, a 3-hydroxypropyl group, a carboxymethyl group, a 2-carboxyethyl group, a 3-carboxypropyl group, a 2-sulfoethyl group, a 3-sulfopropyl group, a 3-sulfobutyl group, a 4-sulfobutyl group, a vinylmethyl group, a phenethyl group, a phenylpropyl group, a phenylbutyl group, a p-sulfobenzyl group, a p-sulfophenethyl group or a p-carboxybenzyl group.

Claim 22

The silver halide photographic light-sensitive element as claimed in claim 15, wherein R is an ethyl group, a phenethyl group or a benzyl group.

Claim 23

The silver halide photographic light-sensitive element as claimed in claim 15, wherein R is an ethyl group.

Claim 24

The silver halide photographic light-sensitive element as claimed in claim 15, wherein R 4 and R 5 are independently an alkyl group, a hydroxyalkyl group, a carboxyalkyl group, a sulfoalkyl group, a vinylmethyl group, an aralkyl group, or a substituted aralkyl group.

The silver halide photographic light-sensitive element as claimed in claim 15, wherein R 4 and R 5 are independently a methyl group, an ethyl group, a propyl group, a butyl group, a 2-hydroxyethyl group, a 3-hydroxypropyl group, a carboxymethyl group, a 2-carboxyethyl group, a 3-carboxypropyl group, a 2-sulfoethyl group, a 3-sulfopropyl group, a 3-sulfobutyl group, a 4-sulfobutyl group, a vinylmethyl group, a phenethyl group, a phenylpropyl group, a phenylbutyl group, a p-sulfobenzyl group, a p-sulfophenethyl group or a p-carboxybenzyl group.

Claim 26

The silver halide photographic light-sensitive element as claimed in claim 15, wherein W 1 and W 2 are independently a chlorine atom, a phenyl group, a methyl group, a methoxy group or a trifluoromethyl group.

Claim 27

The silver halide photographic light-sensitive element as claimed in claim 15, wherein W 3 and W 4 are independently a hydrogen atom.

Claim 28

The silver halide photographic light-sensitive element as claimed in claim 15, wherein said sensitizing dye represented by formula (I) is ##STR12##

Claim 29

The silver halide photographic light-sensitive element as claimed in claim 15, wherein said sensitizing dye represented by formula (II) is ##STR13##

Claim 30

The silver halide photographic light-sensitive element as claimed in claim 15, further comprising a color coupler.

Claim 31

The silver halide photographic light-sensitive element as claimed in claim 15, wherein the color coupler is a magenta coupler.

Claim 32

The silver halide photographic light-sensitive element as claimed in claim 15, wherein the magenta coupler is a 2-equivalent coupler.

Claim 33

The silver halide photographic light-sensitive element as claimed in claim 15, wherein said element is a color reversal film.

Claim 34

The silver halide photographic light-sensitive element as claimed in claim 15, wherein said element is a color negative film.
