Abstract

Abstract Magnetic printing apparatus for forming on a substrate a colored print of an original colored design, said apparatus comprising a ferromagnetic printing means which is imposed on an electrically conductive support; means for forming on the ferromagnetic printing means a magnetic image of a photocolor-separated film positive of the original colored design; means for developing the magnetic image on the ferromagnetic printing means with a toner comprising a ferromagnetic component, a dye and a resin; means for transferring the developed image to the substrate, and means for neutralizing static electricity on said toner. Optionally, the apparatus may include: means for transferring the developed image from one substrate to another; means for fixing said dye on and/or in an ultimate substrate; and/or means for removing said ferromagnetic component and said resin.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 16
Claim 1
Independent Claim 131 words
Magnetic printing apparatus for forming on a substrate a colored print of an original colored design comprising a ferromagnetic printing means capable of continuously discharging an electric charge through its thickness to a grounded electrically conductive support on which it is imposed; means for forming on said ferromagnetic printing means a magnetic image of a photocolor-separated film positive of the original colored design, means for developing said magnetic image on said ferromagnetic means with a toner comprising a ferromagnetic component, a dye and a resin which substantially encapsulates said component and dye; means for neutralizing static electricity on said toner; means for removing from said ferromagnetic means neutralized toner particles which prior to neutralization had been adhered thereto by static electricity; and means for transferring the developed image to the substrate.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 131 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 34 words
Apparatus of claim 1 which includes a plurality of all of said means in sequential array so as to provide for formation on the substrate of a multicolored print of an original multi-colored design.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 92 words
Apparatus of claim 2 further characterized in containing a plurality of means for forming a plurality of magnetic images corresponding to a series of color separation film positives of an original multicolored design, means for developing each of said magnetic images with a different ferromagnetic toner which contains an appropriately colored dye corresponding to a given color film positive, and means for transferring each developed image to a substrate in register and superimposed one on top of the other so as to form a multicolored print corresponding to said original multicolored design.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 19 words
Apparatus of claim 1, 2 or 3 which includes means for fixing said dye on and/or in said substrate.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 16 words
Apparatus of claim 1 wherein said means for transferring the developed image is a magnetic means.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 21 words
Apparatus of claim 4 wherein said means for fixing said dye on and/or in said substrate is a steam heating means.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 58 words
Apparatus of claim 1, 2 or 3 wherein said means for forming said magnetic image does so by (a) magnetizing said ferromagnetic printing means in its entirety and thereafter heating one or more portions of said ferromagnetic printing means so as to at least partially demagnetize said portions; or (b) magnetizing selected portions of said ferromagnetic printing means.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 17 words
Apparatus of claims 1 or 2 which includes means for removing said ferromagnetic component and said resin.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 11 words
Apparatus of claim 8 wherein said resin is water-soluble or water-solubilizable.
Claim 11
Dependent Claim 14 words
Apparatus of claim 1 wherein said ferromagnetic means consists essentially of acicular chromium dioxide.
Claim 12
Dependent Claim 19 words
Apparatus of claim 1 wherein said means for transferring the developed image to the substrate is an electrostatic means.
Claim 13
Dependent Claim 16 words
Apparatus of claim 1 wherein said means for transferring the developed image is a pressure means.
Claim 14
Dependent Claim 21 words
Apparatus of claim 4 wherein said means for fixing said dye on and/or in said substrate is an infrared heating means.
Claim 15
Dependent Claim 16 words
Magnetic printing apparatus of claim 1 additionally containing means for adhering the image to the substrate.
Claim 16
