Abstract

Abstract A lighted display device having an array of discrete reflective surfaces each of which is associated with a visual display. The reflectivity of each of the surfaces is established so that the light reflected to, and illuminating, each associated visual display is of equal intensity independent of the distance of the reflective surface from the light source.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 20
Claim 1
Independent Claim 42 words
A lighted display having: (a) an external light source; (b) an array of discrete reflective surfaces supported at varying distances from said light source; and (c) a visual display associated with each said reflective surface and positioned for viewing by an operator;
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 42 words
A lighted display having: (a) an external light source; (b) an array of discrete reflective surfaces supported at varying distances from said light source; and (c) a visual display associated with each said reflective surface and positioned for viewing by an operator;
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 47 words
wherein each of said reflective surfaces has a reflectivity inversely proportional to the square of the distance of said surface from said light source so that the intensity of light reflected by each of said surfaces to their respective said associated visual displays may be substantially equal.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 47 words
wherein each of said reflective surfaces has a reflectivity inversely proportional to the square of the distance of said surface from said light source so that the intensity of light reflected by each of said surfaces to their respective said associated visual displays may be substantially equal.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 31 words
A lighted display as set forth in claim 1 wherein each said reflective surface comprises a matrix of white dots, the percentage of area covered by said dots defining said reflectivity.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 27 words
A lighted display as set forth in claim 2 wherein said percentage of area covered by said dots is established by the mutual spacing of said dots.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 29 words
A lighted display as set forth in claim 2 wherein said percentage of area covered by said dots is established by the physical size and shape of said dots.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 19 words
A lighted display as set forth in claim 4 wherein said physical shape of said dots is substantially circular.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 15 words
A lighted display as set forth in claim 2 wherein said white dots are paint.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 28 words
A lighted display as set forth in claims 1, 2 or 6 wherein said reflective surfaces are arranged on a surface of a transparent thermoplastic resin light pipe.
Claim 11
Dependent Claim 25 words
A lighted display as set forth in claims 1, 2 or 6 wherein said reflective surfaces are arranged on a surface of a display panel.
Claim 12
Dependent Claim 108 words
In combination, a sewing machine having a plurality of operator influencable functions and a lighted display having: (a) a light source; (b) a plurality of representative visual displays of said operator influencable functions positioned for viewing by the operator; (c) an array of discrete reflective surfaces supported at varying distances from said light source, each of which is associated with one of said representative visual displays and has a reflectivity inversely proportional to the square of the distance of said surface from said light source so that the intensity of light reflected by each of said surfaces to their respective said representative visual displays may be substantially equal.
Claim 13
Dependent Claim 108 words
In combination, a sewing machine having a plurality of operator influencable functions and a lighted display having: (a) a light source; (b) a plurality of representative visual displays of said operator influencable functions positioned for viewing by the operator; (c) an array of discrete reflective surfaces supported at varying distances from said light source, each of which is associated with one of said representative visual displays and has a reflectivity inversely proportional to the square of the distance of said surface from said light source so that the intensity of light reflected by each of said surfaces to their respective said representative visual displays may be substantially equal.
Claim 14
Dependent Claim 41 words
A combination as set forth in claim 9 wherein each of said reflective surfaces includes an arrangement of white dots, the percentage of area covered by said dots in relation to the total area of said reflective surface defining said reflectivity.
Claim 15
Dependent Claim 25 words
A combination as set forth in claim 10 wherein said percentage of area covered by said dots is established by relative positioning of said dots.
Claim 16
Dependent Claim 28 words
A combination as set forth in claim 10 wherein said percentage of area covered by said dots is established by the physical size and shape of said dots.
Claim 17
Dependent Claim 18 words
A combination as set forth in claim 12 wherein said physical shape of said dots is substantially circular.
Claim 18
Dependent Claim 14 words
A combination as set forth in claim 10 wherein said white dots are paint.
Claim 19
Dependent Claim 27 words
A combination as set forth in claims 9, 10 or 14 wherein said reflective surfaces are arranged on a surface of a transparent thermoplastic resin light pipe.
Claim 20
Dependent Claim 24 words
A combination as set forth in claims 9, 10 or 14 wherein said reflective surfaces are arranged on a surface of a display panel.
