Abstract
Abstract A chemically-modified asphalt composition formed by reaction of asphalt and a polymerizable aromatic monomer followed by reaction with a polyester. Alternatively, the impact strength of the chemically-modified asphalt composition can be increased by carrying out the latter reaction in the presence of a rubbery polymer. The composition is non-tacky relative to the asphalt and can be cross-linked with a vulcanizing agent to form rigid bodies which can be chemically bonded to reinforcements and fillers, specifically including glass fibers.
