Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 11
Claim 1
Independent Claim 56 words
A chemically modified asphalt composition prepared by reaction, at a temperature ranging from 100° to 500° C., of an asphalt with a nitrogen-containing compound selected from the group consisting of (a) ammonia, (b) a polyalkylene polyamine and (c) an aromatic diamine having the formula: H.sub.2 N--R--NH.sub.2 wherein R is a phenylene group or a naphthalene group.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 56 words
A chemically modified asphalt composition prepared by reaction, at a temperature ranging from 100° to 500° C., of an asphalt with a nitrogen-containing compound selected from the group consisting of (a) ammonia, (b) a polyalkylene polyamine and (c) an aromatic diamine having the formula: H.sub.2 N--R--NH.sub.2 wherein R is a phenylene group or a naphthalene group.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 13 words
An asphalt as defined in claim 1 wherein the nitrogen-containing compound is ammonia.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 51 words
An asphalt as defined in claim 1 wherein the nitrogen-containing compound is a polyalkylene polyamine having the formula: H.sub.2 N--(CH.sub.2).sub.y --NH--(CH.sub.2).sub.2 --NH].sub.a H wherein y is an integer from 2 to 6, z is an integer from 2 to 6 and a is 0 or an integer from 1 to 6.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 23 words
An asphalt as defined in claim 1 wherein the nitrogen-containing compound is reacted with the asphalt at a temperature ranging from 100°-500° C.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 30 words
An asphalt as defined in claim 1 wherein the reaction between the asphalt and the nitrogen-containing compound is carried out while the asphalt is dissolved in an inert aromatic solvent.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 18 words
An asphalt as defined in claim 1 wherein the modified asphalt contains up to 8% nitrogen by weight.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 24 words
An asphalt as defined in claim 1 wherein the asphalt is a blown asphalt having an oxygen content up to about 5% by weight.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 35 words
A chemically modified asphalt composition prepared by reaction, at a temperature ranging from 100° to 500° C., of an asphalt with a nitrogen-containing compound selected from the group consisting of ammonia and a polyalkylene polyamine.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 35 words
A chemically modified asphalt composition prepared by reaction, at a temperature ranging from 100° to 500° C., of an asphalt with a nitrogen-containing compound selected from the group consisting of ammonia and a polyalkylene polyamine.
Claim 11
Dependent Claim 19 words
An asphalt as defined in claim 8 wherein the chemically modified asphalt contains up to 8% nitrogen by weight.
