A laundry detergent composition consisting essentially of, based on the total weight of the composition: (a) 5% to about 50% of a detergent active of nonionic or zwitterionic surface active agent or mixtures thereof; (b) 10% to about 80% of an alkali metal carbonate; (c) 0.1% to about 5% of a water-soluble inorganic aluminum compound of aluminum sulfate, aluminum chloride, aluminum bromide, aluminum chlorate, aluminum iodide, aluminum nitrate, or hydrates thereof; and 0 to 55% of a filler of sodium sulfate or sodium chloride.
