A cigarette filter comprising a bundle of cellulose acetate filaments, each filament being substantially uniform in its denier size, said bundle being composed of a plurality of filaments having at least two different filament denier sizes, said filaments running parallel to the longitudinal axis of said filter and being randomly distributed in the direction perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of said filter and wherein said filaments having at least two different filament denier sizes have a number average filament denier of not more than about 4 denier, and wherein the ratio of the weight average filament denier to the number average filament denier size of the bundle is at least about 1.03.
