Abstract
Abstract Reaction products useful for enhancing the organoleptic response of smoking materials are disclosed. The reaction of a reducing sugar, ammonia and carboxylic acid, whether saturated or unsaturated, and having from about 6 to 26 carbon atoms, results in flavorant products, which may be incorporated into smoking filler materials without additional processing, such as refining or isolating individual components of the mixture.

A method of preparing a reaction flavor which comprises combining reactants including a reducing sugar, in the presence of ammonium hydroxide with a saturated or unsaturated carboxylic acid or mixtures thereof, said acid having between about 6 and 26 carbon atoms, and heating the reactants in a temperature range between about 70° and 150° C. for a period of time of from about 0.5 hour to about 3 hours.
Claim 2
Independent Claim
69 words
A method of preparing a reaction flavor which comprises combining reactants including a reducing sugar, in the presence of ammonium hydroxide with a saturated or unsaturated carboxylic acid or mixtures thereof, said acid having between about 6 and 26 carbon atoms, and heating the reactants in a temperature range between about 70° and 150° C. for a period of time of from about 0.5 hour to about 3 hours.
