Abstract

Abstract An interlayer material is scanned prior to laminating same with glass sheets to generate a thickness variation signal, a wedge angle signal and an optical power signal. The signals are then selectively filtered to determine the thickness variation, wedge angle and optical power of the interlayer after lamination.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 11
Claim 1
Independent Claim 97 words
In a method of making a transparent laminate, wherein the method includes the step of laminating at least one sheet to a plastic sheet, wherein the improvement comprises the steps of: generating an optical profile of the plastic sheet prior to the lamination step; altering portions of the optical profile of the plastic sheet to be affected by the laminating step to provide an altered optical profile which is the expected optical contribution of the plastic sheet to the laminate; and practicing the laminating step using a plastic sheet determined to have an acceptable altered optical profile.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 97 words
In a method of making a transparent laminate, wherein the method includes the step of laminating at least one sheet to a plastic sheet, wherein the improvement comprises the steps of: generating an optical profile of the plastic sheet prior to the lamination step; altering portions of the optical profile of the plastic sheet to be affected by the laminating step to provide an altered optical profile which is the expected optical contribution of the plastic sheet to the laminate; and practicing the laminating step using a plastic sheet determined to have an acceptable altered optical profile.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 24 words
The method as set forth in claim 1 wherein said generating step includes the step of generating a thickness profile of the plastic sheet.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 42 words
The method as set forth in claim 2 wherein said generating step includes the step of: generating a thickness variation frequency signal; and said altering step includes the step of filtering frequencies above a predetermined value from the thickness variation frequency signal.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 27 words
The method as set forth in claim 1 or 2 wherein said generating step includes the step of generating a wedge angle profile of the plastic sheet.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 41 words
The method as set forth in claim 4 wherein said generating step includes the step of: generating a wedge angle signal; and said altering step includes the step of filtering frequencies above a predetermined value from the wedge angle frequency signal.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 25 words
The method as set forth in claim 1 wherein said generating step includes the step of generating an optical power profile of the plastic sheet.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 42 words
The method as set forth in claim 6 wherein said generating step includes the step of: generating an optical power frequency signal; and said altering step includes the step of filtering frequencies above a predetermined value from the optical power frequency signal.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 70 words
The method as set forth in claim 1 wherein said step of generating an optical profile includes the steps of: generating a thickness variation signal of the plastic sheet; differentiating the thickness variation signal to provide a wedge angle signal; differentiating the wedge angle signal to provide an optical power signal; and said altering step includes the step of filtering frequencies above a predetermined value from the optical power signal.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 21 words
The method as set forth in claim 8 wherein the laminate includes the plastic sheet between a pair of glass sheets.
Claim 11
Dependent Claim 63 words
The method as set forth in claim 1 or 8 wherein the laminate is an automotive window having a plastic sheet between a pair of glass sheets and said practicing step includes the step of: comparing the altered optical profile of the plastic sheet to actual optical profile of the plastic sheet after laminate to determine difference therebetween to evaluate the laminating step.
