Abstract

Abstract A method of producing carbon steel and low-alloy steel in a basic oxygen furnace is disclosed, in which a blow of the bottom-blowing gas predominantly comprised of carbon dioxide is introduced into a molten metal through at least one nozzle provided in the bottom or side wall of said basic oxygen furnace at least partly during the period of time from the beginning of blowing to the tapping of the melt, and the flow rate of the bottom-blowing gas is 1/200 - 9/100 the rate of oxygen impinged upon the melt through a lance.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 15
Claim 1
Independent Claim 125 words
A method of producing carbon steel and low-alloy steel in a basic oxygen furnace comprising preparing a molten metal suitable for producing the steel in said basic oxygen furnace, carrying out the top-blowing of oxygen gas through a lance and bottom blowing and then tapping the resulting molten steel, characterized in that a blow of the bottom-blowing gas predominantly comprising carbon dioxide is introduced into the molten metal through at least one nozzle provided in the bottom or side wall of said basic oxygen furnace at least partly during the period of time from the beginning of blowing to the tapping of the melt, the flow rate of the bottom blowing gas being 1/200-9/100 the rate of oxygen impinged upon the melt through said lance.
Claim 2
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 26 words
A method as defined in claim 1, in which the nitrogen content of said bottom blowing gas is limited to not more than 20% by volume.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 19 words
A method as defined in claim 1, in which the bottom blowing gas contains a small amount of oxygen.
Claim 5
Independent Claim 116 words
A method of producing carbon steel and low-carbon steel in a basic oxygen furnace comprising preparing a molten metal suitable for producing said steel in said basic oxygen furnace, carrying out the top-blowing and bottom-blowing and then tapping the resulting molten steel, characterized in that a blow of the bottom-blowing gas predominantly comprising carbon dioxide is introduced into the molten metal through at least one nozzle provided in the bottom or side wall of said basic oxygen furnace at least partly during the period of time from the beginning of blowing to the tapping of the melt, the amount of the bottom-blowing gas being adjusted so that the uniform mixing time is longer than 20 seconds.
Claim 6
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 30 words
A method as defined in claim 4, in which the flow rate of the bottom blowing gas is 1/200-9/100 the rate of oxygen impinged upon the melt through a lance.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 18 words
A method as defined in claim 4 or 5 in which the uniform mixing time is 20-70 seconds.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 16 words
A method as defined in claim 6, in which the uniform mixing time is 30-70 seconds.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 33 words
A method as defined in claim 1, in which a blow of nitrogen gas is introduced instead of said bottom-blowing gas until the carbon content of the molten metal reduces to about 0.5%.
Claim 11
Dependent Claim 41 words
A method as defined in claim 1, in which the amount of said bottom-blowing gas is increased at a final stage of a refining process so as to compensate for the decrease in agitation due to the decreasing of decarbonizing reaction.
Claim 12
Dependent Claim 33 words
A method as defined in claim 4, in which a blow of nitrogen gas is introduced instead of said bottom-blowing gas until the carbon content of the molten metal reduces to about 0.5%.
Claim 13
Dependent Claim 42 words
A method as defined in claim 4, in which the amount of said bottom-blowing gas is increased at a final stage of a refining process so as to compensate for the decrease in agitation due to the going down of decarbonizing reaction.
Claim 14
Dependent Claim 16 words
The method of claim 1, wherein the blow of bottom-blowing gas consists essentially of carbon dioxide.
Claim 15
Dependent Claim 16 words
The method of claim 4, wherein the blow of bottom-blowing gas consists essentially of carbon dioxide.
