Abstract

Abstract ZSM-5 type zeolites as more specifically defined hereinabove, are added to reforming catalysts in order to produce a new catalyst composition with high catalytic activity and excellent selectivity. These new catalysts when utilized in reforming naphtha, reduce the C1 plus C2 concentrations in reformer gas product, while increasing the C3 plus C4 concentrations.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 9
Claim 1
Independent Claim 95 words
A process for reforming which comprises contacting a naphtha charge stock under reforming conditions with a composite which comprises about 0.25% to about 25% by weight of ZSM-5 type zeolite and a platinum group metal reforming catalyst whereby there is produced a gaseous effluent containing a substantially increased yield of C 3 plus C 4 products and a substantially decreased yield of C 1 plus C 2 products as compared with reforming said naphtha charge under reforming conditions giving the same octane number liquid product in the presence of said platinum group metal reforming catalyst.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 95 words
A process for reforming which comprises contacting a naphtha charge stock under reforming conditions with a composite which comprises about 0.25% to about 25% by weight of ZSM-5 type zeolite and a platinum group metal reforming catalyst whereby there is produced a gaseous effluent containing a substantially increased yield of C 3 plus C 4 products and a substantially decreased yield of C 1 plus C 2 products as compared with reforming said naphtha charge under reforming conditions giving the same octane number liquid product in the presence of said platinum group metal reforming catalyst.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 20 words
The process of claim 1 wherein said C 3 plus C 4 products are separated from the said gaseous effluent.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 26 words
The process of claim 1 wherein the separated C 3 and C 4 products are further separated into the individual C 3 and C 4 components.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 13 words
The process of claim 1 wherein the reforming catalyst comprises platinum on alumina.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 15 words
The process of claim 1 wherein the reforming catalyst comprises platinum and rhenium on alumina.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 17 words
The process of claim 1 wherein the zeolite has the pattern as set forth in Table 1.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 14 words
The process of claim 1 wherein the zeolite has been exchanged with ammonium cations.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 22 words
The process of claim 1 wherein said zeolite is present to the extent of from about 1% to about 15% by weight.
