Alkyl glyceryl ether sulfate salts and process for their preparation

Claim 2

A composition of matter consisting essentially of a mixture of sulfated alkyl mono-and poly-glyceryl ether alcohol compounds of the general formula: ##STR6## wherein R is a linear alkyl radical containing from about 10 to about 20 carbon atoms, n is an integer from 1 to 3, and X is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen and sulfonic acid salt radicals, at least one X in each compound of the mixture being a sulfonic acid salt radical.

Claim 3

The composition of claim 1 wherein R is a linear alkyl radical containing 12 to 16 carbon atoms.

Claim 4

The composition of claim 1 wherein R is a lauryl radical.

Claim 5

The composition of claim 1 wherein the cation of the water-soluble sulfonic acid salt radical is selected from the group consisting of sodium, potassium, ammonium, tetra-alkyl ammonium, and alkylol substituted ammonium in which the alkylol contains a whole number of carbon atoms from 2 to 3.

Claim 6

The composition of claim 1 wherein the cation of the water-soluble sulfonic acid salt radical is sodium.

Claim 7

The composition of claim 1 wherein the cation of the water-soluble sulfonic acid salt radical is potassium.

Claim 8

The composition of claim 1 wherein the cation of the water-soluble sulfonic acid salt radical is ammonium.

Claim 9

The composition of claim 1 having at least 80% of such sulfated alkyl glyceryl ether alcohols wherein n is 1.

Claim 10

A sulfated alkyl glyceryl ether alcohol compound of the general formula: ##STR7## wherein R is a linear alkyl radical containing from about 10 to about 20 carbon atoms, and X is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen and sulfonic acid salt radicals, at least one X in the compound being a sulfonic acid salt radical.

Claim 11

A sulfated alkyl glyceryl ether alcohol compound of the general formula: ##STR7## wherein R is a linear alkyl radical containing from about 10 to about 20 carbon atoms, and X is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen and sulfonic acid salt radicals, at least one X in the compound being a sulfonic acid salt radical.

Claim 12

The composition of claim 9 wherein R is a linear alkyl radical containing 12 to 16 carbon atoms.

Claim 13

The composition of claim 9 wherein R is a lauryl radical.

Claim 14

The composition of claim 9 wherein the cation of the water-soluble sulfonic acid salt radical is selected from the group consisting of sodium, potassium, ammonium, tetra-alkyl ammonium and alkylol substituted ammonium in which the alkylol contains a whole number of carbon atoms from 2 to 3.

Claim 15

The composition of claim 9 wherein the cation of the water-soluble sulfonic acid salt radical is sodium.

Claim 16

The composition of claim 9 wherein the cation of the water-soluble sulfonic acid salt radical is potassium.

Claim 17

The composition of claim 9 wherein the cation of the water-soluble sulfonic acid salt radical is ammonium.

Claim 18

A composition of matter consisting essentially of a mixture of sulfated alkyl poly-glyceryl ether alcohol compounds of the general formula: ##STR8##

Claim 19

A composition of matter consisting essentially of a mixture of sulfated alkyl poly-glyceryl ether alcohol compounds of the general formula: ##STR8##

Claim 20

where R is a linear alkyl radical containing from about 10 to about 20 carbon atoms, n is an integer selected from the group 2 and 3, and X is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen and sulfonic acid salt radicals, at least one X in each compound of the mixture being a sulfonic acid salt radical, said mixture containing a major proportion of such sulfated alkyl glyceryl ether alcohols wherein n is 2, the balance of said mixture consisting predominately of such sulfated alkyl glyceryl ether alcohols where n is 3.

Claim 21

where R is a linear alkyl radical containing from about 10 to about 20 carbon atoms, n is an integer selected from the group 2 and 3, and X is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen and sulfonic acid salt radicals, at least one X in each compound of the mixture being a sulfonic acid salt radical, said mixture containing a major proportion of such sulfated alkyl glyceryl ether alcohols wherein n is 2, the balance of said mixture consisting predominately of such sulfated alkyl glyceryl ether alcohols where n is 3.

Claim 22

The composition of claim 16 wherein R is a linear alkyl radical containing 12 to 16 carbon atoms.

The composition of claim 16 wherein R is a lauryl radical.

Claim 24

The composition of claim 16 wherein the cation of the water-soluble sulfonic acid salt radical is selected from the group consisting of sodium, potassium, ammonium, tetra-alkyl ammonium, and alkylol substituted ammonium in which the alkylol contains a whole number of carbon atoms from 2 to 3.

The composition of claim 16 wherein the cation of the water-soluble sulfonic acid salt radical is sodium.

Claim 26

The composition of claim 16 wherein the cation of the water-soluble sulfonic acid salt radical is potassium.

Claim 27

The composition of claim 16 wherein the cation of water-soluble sulfonic acid salt radical is ammonium.

Claim 28

A composition of matter consisting essentially of a mixture of sulfated alkyl mono-and poly-glyceryl ether alcohol compounds of the general formula: ##STR9## wherein R is a linear alkyl radical containing from about 10 to about 20 carbon atoms, n is an integer from 1 to 3, and X is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen and sulfonic acid salt radicals, at least one X in each compound of the mixture being a sulfonic acid salt radical, said mixture containing a major proportion of such sulfated alkyl glyceryl ether alcohols wherein n is 1, the balance of said mixture consisting predominately of a mixture of such sulfated alkyl glyceryl ether alcohols where n is 2 and 3.

Claim 29

A composition of matter consisting essentially of a mixture of sulfated alkyl mono-and poly-glyceryl ether alcohol compounds of the general formula: ##STR9## wherein R is a linear alkyl radical containing from about 10 to about 20 carbon atoms, n is an integer from 1 to 3, and X is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen and sulfonic acid salt radicals, at least one X in each compound of the mixture being a sulfonic acid salt radical, said mixture containing a major proportion of such sulfated alkyl glyceryl ether alcohols wherein n is 1, the balance of said mixture consisting predominately of a mixture of such sulfated alkyl glyceryl ether alcohols where n is 2 and 3.
