Abstract
Abstract A light-sensitive silver halide photographic material comprising a support having thereon a layer containing a compound represented by the formula (I): ##STR1## wherein R 1 represents an aliphatic or aromatic residue; R 2 represents a hydrogen atom, an aliphatic or an aromatic residue; and X 1 and X 2 , which may be the same or different, each represents a divalent aromatic group; and a method of forming a direct positive image which comprises processing a light-sensitive silver halide photographic material having a support carrying thereon an internal latent image type silver halide emulsion layer in the presence of the compound represented by the said formula (I). The compound is particularly effective in combination with diffusible dye releasing (DRR) compounds having o-hydroxyarylsulfamoyl groups.

A direct positive silver halide photographic light-sensitive material comprising a support having coated thereon an internal latent image type light-sensitive photographic emulsion layer that contains a light-sensitive silver halide of the type which is not previously fogged, and a hydrophilic colloid layer adjacent to said emulsion layer, at least one of said layers containing a compound represented by the formula (I) and present in an amount to give a suitable maximum density when said material is developed by a surface developing solution: ##STR33## wherein R 1 represents a substituted or unsubstituted alkyl group, a substituted or unsubstituted alkenyl group, a substituted or unsubstituted phenyl group or a substituted or unsubstituted naphthyl group; R 2 represents a hydrogen atom, a substituted or unsubstituted alkyl group, a substituted or unsubstituted alkenyl group, a substituted or unsubstituted phenyl group or a substituted or unsubstituted naphthyl group; and X 1 , and X 2 , which are the same or different, each represents a substituted or unsubstituted phenylene group or a substituted or unsubstituted naphthylene group.
