Abstract

Abstract A halogenated alkene is reacted with HF in the presence of TaF 5 or NbF 5 to produce a fluorinated alkane. Exemplary is the reaction of tetrachloroethene with HF in the presence of TaF 5 to produce 1,2,2-trichloro-1,1-difluoroethane and 1,1,2,2-tetrachloro-1-fluoroethane.
