Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 12
Claim 1
Independent Claim 78 words
In a process for the preparation of an azo pigment whereby the diazo of an aromatic aminosulfonic acid is coupled into 2-hydroxy-3-naphthoic acid, and whereby said pigment is optionally converted into the alkali metal, alkaline earth metal, or manganese salt thereof, the improvement which comprises: using as the coupling component a composition comprising from about 90 to 99 percent by weight of 2-hydroxy-3-naphthoic acid and from about 1 to 10 percent by weight of an alpha substituted-2-hydroxy-3-naphthoic acid.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 78 words
In a process for the preparation of an azo pigment whereby the diazo of an aromatic aminosulfonic acid is coupled into 2-hydroxy-3-naphthoic acid, and whereby said pigment is optionally converted into the alkali metal, alkaline earth metal, or manganese salt thereof, the improvement which comprises: using as the coupling component a composition comprising from about 90 to 99 percent by weight of 2-hydroxy-3-naphthoic acid and from about 1 to 10 percent by weight of an alpha substituted-2-hydroxy-3-naphthoic acid.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 29 words
The process of claim 1 wherein said alpha substituted-2-hydroxy-3-naphthoic acid is selected from the group consisting of 1-nitro-2-hydroxy-3-naphthoic acid, 1-methyl-2-hydroxy-3-naphthoic acid, 1-chloro-2-hydroxy-3-naphthoic acid, 1-bromo-2-hydroxy-3-naphthoic acid, 2,2'-dihydroxy-3,3'-dicarboxy-1,1'-dinaphthyl, and mixtures thereof.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 21 words
The process of claim 1 wherein said coupler component is a mixture of compounds obtained by the oxidation of 2-hydroxy-3-naphthoic acid.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 13 words
The process of claim 5 wherein the oxidation is performed with ferric chloride.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 13 words
The process of claim 3 wherein the oxidation is performed with ferric sultate.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 40 words
An azo pigment whereby the diazo of an aromatic aminosulfonic acid is coupled into a composition comprising about 90 to 99 percent by weight of 2-hydroxy-3-naphthoic acid and about 1 to 10 percent by weight of an alpha substituted-2-hydroxy-3-naphthoic acid.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 40 words
An azo pigment whereby the diazo of an aromatic aminosulfonic acid is coupled into a composition comprising about 90 to 99 percent by weight of 2-hydroxy-3-naphthoic acid and about 1 to 10 percent by weight of an alpha substituted-2-hydroxy-3-naphthoic acid.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 29 words
The pigment of claim 6 wherein said alpha substituted-2-hydroxy-3-naphthoic acid is selected from the group consisting of 1-nitro-2-hydroxy-3-naphthoic acid, 1-methyl-2-hydroxy-3-naphthoic acid, 1-chloro-2-hydroxy-3-naphthoic acid, 1-bromo-2-hydroxy-3-naphthoic acid, 2,2'-dihydroxy-3,3'-dicarboxy-1,1'-dinaphthyl, and mixtures thereof.
