Total Claims: 6
Claim 1
Independent Claim 98 words
Vulcanizable compositions suitable for the formation of vulcanizates of diolefin rubbers by exposure to high energy ionizing radiation at a total dose of from about 0.1 to 15 Mrads, said compositions comprising diolefin rubbers having an average molecular weight of from about 100,000 to about 500,000 together with from about 0.1 to 5% based on the total weight of at least one polyhydrosulfide direct radiation vulcanization promoter together with from about 0.1 to 5% of an indirect radiation vulcanization promoter which is a low molecular weight halogenated aliphatic or aromatic hydrocarbon containing up to about 10 carbon atoms.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 98 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 46 words
A composition as in claim 1 wherein the halogenated hydrocarbon indirect radiation promoter is selected from the group consisting of dichlorobenzenes, dibromobenzenes, difluorobenzenes, bromobenzene, chlorobenzene, chlorotoluenes, mono- and polychlorinated biphenyls, dichloromethacrylates, chloroform, carbon tetrachloride, carbon tetrabromide, hexachloroethane, 1,2-dichloro-4-t-butylbenzene, t-butyl chloride, cyclohexyl bromide, a-chlorotoluene, and a, a'-dichloroxylene.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 23 words
A composition as in claim 1 wherein at least one direct promoter is 1,10-dimercaptodecane and at least one indirect promoter is a dichlorobenzene.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 20 words
A composition as in claim 1 wherein the direct promoter is trimethylolpropane dithioglycolate and the indirect promoter is chlorinated biphenyl.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 16 words
A composition as in claim 1 wherein the concentration of polyhydrosulfide is from 0.25 to 1.5%.
