Abstract
Abstract Triglycerides in biological fluids containing interfering substances, such as phospholipids, are determined by hydrolyzing the triglycerides to glycerol in a short time span at moderate temperatures with a solution of alkali metal hydroxide in methanol, and treating the resultant hydrolysis mixture with a water soluble magnesium salt to precipitate the interfering substances. Glycerol is then colorimetrically determined in the resultant supernatant solution by incubating with a single reagent-substrate composition to develop a measurable color.
