Abstract

Abstract There are provided high impact strength thermoplastic compositions comprising a polyphenylene ether and a polystyrene resin and rubber of a rubber modified polystryene resin. The compositions include a dispersed elastomeric phase with the dispersed particles having a maximum mean diameter of 2 microns and preferably from about 0.5 to 2 microns. The small elastomeric particles provide molded articles with substantial and unexpected improvements in impact resistance, surface appearance and resistance to aggressive solvent systems in comparison with known compositions having dispersed elastomeric particles of larger than 2 microns in diameter.
