Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 6
Claim 1
Independent Claim 203 words
A method of clarifying and removing water from a sump containing water having drilling solids suspended therein comprising the steps of: dispersing an aqueous solution containing a non-ionic polyacrylamide flocculating agent in an amount in the range of from about 0.4 to about 1.2 percent by weight into said water solids suspension in an amount in the range of from about 0.00023 to about 0.452 gallons per gallons of water-solids suspension; dispersing an aqueous solution containing an anionic polyacrylamide flocculating agent in an amount in the range of from about 0.4 to about 1.2 percent by weight into said water-solids suspension in an amount in the range of from about 0.00001 to about 0.226 gallons per gallon of water-solids suspension to thereby form said suspended drilling solids into flocculent masses of a size in the range of from about 0.1 to about 0.4 centimeters in diameter; and withdrawing water from said sump through a screen of a size in the range of from about 10 to about 20 mesh (U.S. Sieve Series) whereby clarified water is continuously removed from said sump without removing said flocculent masses, wherein said screen is connected to a suction means and placed near the bottom of said sump.
Claim 2
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 13 words
A method of claim 1 in which the screen is a cylindrical screen.
Claim 4
Independent Claim 265 words
A method of clarifying and removing water from a sump containing water having drilling solids suspended therein comprising in order the sequential steps of: (a) combining an aqueous salt soltuion with said water-solids suspension in a quantity in the range of from about 0.002 to about 0.02 gallons per gallon of water-solids suspension, said aqueous salt solution containing an inorganic alkaline earth metal salt present in said solution in an amount of from about 30 to about 70 percent by weight; (b) dispersing an aqueous solution containing a nonionic polyacrylamide flocculating agent in an amount in the range of from about 0.4 to about 1.2 percent by weight into said water-solids suspension in an amount in the range of from about 0.00023 to about 0.452 gallons per gallon of water-solids suspension; (c) dispersing an aqueous solution containing an anionic polyacrylamide flocculating agent in an amount in the range of from about 0.4 to about 1.2 percent by weight into said water-solids suspension in an amount in the range of from about 0.00001 to about 0.226 gallons per gallon of water-solids suspension to thereby form said suspended drilling solids into flocculent masses of a size in the range of from about 0.1 to about 0.4 centimeters in diameter; and (d) withdrawing water from said sump through a screen of a size in the range of from about 10 to about 20 mesh (U.S. Sieve Series) whereby clarified water is continuously removed from said sump without removing said flocculent masses, wherein said screen is connected to a suction means and placed near the bottom of said sump.
Claim 5
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 13 words
A method of claim 3 in which the screen is a basket screen.
