A benzofuranyl compound of the formula: ##STR6## wherein R 1 and R 2 are the same or different and are selected from the group consisting of hydrogen and alkyl of 1-6 carbon atoms; R 5 is selected from the group consisting of R 8 CO--, R 9 SO 2 -- and R 9 SO--, in which R 8 is halogen substituted alkyl of 1-4 carbon atoms, and R 9 is selected from the group consisting of (a) alkyl of 1-4 carbon atoms, (b) substituted alkyl of 1-4 carbon atoms wherein the substituent is selected from the group of halogen and alkoxy of 1-6 carbon atoms, (c) phenyl and (d) phenyl substituted by a member of the group of halogen and alkyl of 1-4 carbon atoms and R 10 , R 11 and R 12 are the same or difference and are selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, alkyl of 1-4 carbon atoms, halogen, cyano, acetyl and alkoxy of 1-4 carbon atoms.
