Abstract
Abstract Carbonylaldiminomethanephosphonates are produced by the reaction of glyoxal or glyoxylic acid esters with aminomethylphosphonic acid esters. The carbonylaldiminomethanephosphonates can then be reduced and hydrolyzed or reduced and oxidized to yield N-(phosphonomethyl)glycine which is useful as a post-emergent herbicide.
