Claim 1
Independent Claim
156 words
A method for the preparation of a bacteria preparation intended for inoculation of leguminous seed, which preparation contains a fungicide resistant strain of Rhizobium, which strain has good infecting and nitrogen-fixing abilities in symbiosis with plants of the leguminosea family which method comprises: cultivating, in the presence of a Rhizobium medium and an amount of a selected fungicide sufficient to kill at least 90% of the Rhizobium culture initially present, a culture of Rhizobium bacteria of selected strain and inoculation group having good infecting and nitrogen-fixing ability, whereby bacteria strains and sensitive to said amount of said fungicide are killed; subjecting the residual fungicide resistant bacteria to at least one additional cultivation step, as above, in the presence of an increased amount of said fungicide; and recovering a Rhizobium strain having increased resistance to said fungicide; said fungicide being selected from agricultrually useful legume seed or soil fungicides which adversely affect the Rhizobium bacteria being cultivated.
Claim 2

Claim 3
Dependent Claim
19 words
The method, as in claim 1, wherein the resultant Rhizobium strain is resistant to agriculturally significant amounts of fungicide.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim
26 words
The method, as in claim 2, wherein the bacteria are subjected to at least 6 cultivating steps in the presence of increasing amounts of said fungicide.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim
20 words
The method, as in claim 3, wherein the fungicide is selected from the group consisting of thiram, spergon and phygon.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim
40 words
The method, as in claim 1, wherein at least 99% of the bacteria in the initial culture are killed in the course of each cultivating step, and wherein the resultant Rhizobium strain is resistant to agriculturally significant amounts of fungicide.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim
25 words
The method, as in claim 5, where the fungicide is selected from the group consisting of carbamic acid derivatives, thiram disulfides and halogenated organic compounds.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim
20 words
The method, as in claim 6, where the fungicide is selected from the group consisting of thiram, spergon and phygon.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim
18 words
A leguminous seed having coated thereon a symbiotically-compatible, fungicide-resistance Rhizobium strain produced by the process of claim 1.
