Abstract

Abstract A titanium catalyst for polymerization of olefins is prepared by reduction of TiCl4 with a mixture of AlEt2Cl and AlEt3, where at high AlEt3 to AlEt2Cl ratios the aluminum reducing agents are added to the TiCl4 solution. The reduction is performed from -50 DEG to 0 DEG C in a hydrocarbon and the reduced titanium compound is activated by heating to a higher temperature and subsequently is used with a cocatalyst for polymerization of olefins.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 11
Claim 1
Independent Claim 94 words
A process of preparing TiCl 3 .nAlCl 3 catalysts where n = 0.25 to 0.35 having a mean particle diameter size of from 10 to 200 microns and narrow particle size distribution which consists of reducing TiCl 4 with a mixture of AlEt 3 + AlEt 2 Cl wherein the mole ratio of AlEt 3 to TiCl 4 is from 0.01 to 0.15:1 at a reduced temperature of from about -50° to about 0° C, gradually raising to an elevated temperature sufficient to convert the TiCl 3 .nAlCl 3 catalyst to the violet form.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 94 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 11 words
The process of claim 1 wherein said ratio is about 0.05:1.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 11 words
The process of claim 1 wherein said ratio is about 0.15:1.
Claim 5
