Abstract

Abstract A plastic composition degradable under the influence of weather or light, comprising a plastic material and finely divided titanium dioxide with a specific surface of more than about 20 m2/g. Preferably the titanium dioxide is obtained by hydrolyzing titanium sulfate in aqueous solution, has a predominantly anatase structure, a lightening power of less than about 400, a specific surface of about 60 to 400 m2/g and is present in about 0.5 to 5% by weight of the composition, and the plastic material is selected from the group consisting of polyethylene, ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer, polystyrene, polyvinyl chloride, polyamides and ABS-polymers.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 9
Claim 1
Independent Claim 56 words
A plastic composition degradable under the influence of weather or light, cimprising a plastic material and about 0.1 to 60% by weight of the composition of finely divided titanium dioxide with a specific surface of more than about 20 m 2 /g, the titanium dioxide having been obtained by hydrolyzing a titanium compound in aqueous solution.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 56 words
A plastic composition degradable under the influence of weather or light, cimprising a plastic material and about 0.1 to 60% by weight of the composition of finely divided titanium dioxide with a specific surface of more than about 20 m 2 /g, the titanium dioxide having been obtained by hydrolyzing a titanium compound in aqueous solution.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 18 words
A degradable plastic composition as claimed in claim 1, wherein the titanium dioxide has a predominately anatase structure.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 22 words
A degradable plastic composition as claimed in claim 1, wherein the titanium dioxide has a lightening power of less than about 500.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 34 words
A degradable plastic composition as claimed in claim 1, wherein the plastic material is selected from the group consisting of homopolymers and copolymers of olefins, dienes and vinyl monomers, polyesters, polyamides, polyurethanes and ABS-polymers.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 59 words
A degradable plastic composition as claimed in claim 4, wherein the titanium dioxide is obtained by hydrolyzing titanium sulfate in aqueous solution, has a predominantly anatase structure, a lightening power of less than about 400, a specific surface of more than about 40 m 2 /g and is present in about 0.3 to 30% by weight of the composition.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 59 words
A degradable plastic composition as claimed in claim 5, wherein the titanium dioxide has a specific surface of about 60 to 400 m 2 /g and is present in about 0.5 to 5% by weight of the composition, and the plastic material is selected from the group consisting of polyethylene, ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer, polystyrene, polyvinyl chloride, polyamides and ABS-polymers.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 16 words
A degradable plastic composition as claimed in claim 1, in the form of a shaped article.
