Abstract

Abstract Clay-containing water from processing of oil or bituminous sands or from oil or gas well drilling sites is clarified by treating the water with a sufficient amount of an alkali permanganate to effect adequate clarification. The water may also be treated with an anionic and/or non-ionic polyelectrolyte to expedite the clarification of the water.
