Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 19
Claim 1
Independent Claim 95 words
A method of providing improved corrosion resistance to ferrous metal substrates, comprising: (a) passivating the surface of the substrate by pretreatment with an at least 3 percent by weight dispersion or solution in a compatible vehicle of an onium salt selected from the class consisting of: (R).sub.4 N.sup.⊕ A.sup.⊖ , (R).sub.4 P.sup.+A.sup.-, (R).sub.3 S.sup.+A.sup.- where R are organic radicals and A is an anion of a weak acid which will not detrimentally attack the surface of the ferrous substrate, followed by (b) directly coating the pretreated metal surface with an adhesive or protective coating material.
Claim 2
Independent Claim 95 words
