Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 8
Claim 1
Independent Claim 170 words
A low alloy, high strength steel characterized by good toughness, weldability and cold formability and consisting of from about 0.01 to 0.09% carbon, about 0.4% to about 0.8% nickel, about 0.7% to about 1.1% copper, about 0.2 to about 0.1% niobium, about 1.1% to about 1.65% manganese, aluminum present up to 0.08%, up to 0.5% each of chromium and molybdenum, up to about 0.6% silicon, up to about 0.01% boron, up to about 0.1% of at least one metal selected from the group consisting of zirconium, magnesium, calcium, and rare earths, the balance being essentially iron, said steel being further characterized in that the carbon equivalent expressed by the formula: ##EQU2## is not more than 0.41, said steel being further characterized in that the strength level is at least about 450 MN/m 2 and the 70J longitudinal impact transition temperature is below about -10° C. over section thickness of at least 15 to 35 mm notwithstanding that the steel was finished hot rolled at a temperature up to 1050° C.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 170 words
Claim 3

Claim 4
Dependent Claim 36 words
A steel in accordance with claim 1 containing at least one metal from the group consisting of zirconium, magnesium, calcium and rare earths in a small but effective amount sufficient to render the steel more isotropic.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 28 words
A steel in accordannce with claim 3 containing from 0.02% to 0.06% of at least one metal from the groups consisting of zirconium, magnesium, calcium, and rare earths.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 9 words
A steel in accordance with claim 3 containing magnesium.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 9 words
A steel in accordance with claim 3 containing zirconium.
