Abstract

Abstract A compact and lightweight case for a portable sewing machine has a hollow rectangular base which receives and is secured to the bed of a sewing machine and a cover which rests on the base and surrounds those parts of the machine which extend above the bed. One of such parts has a handle which extends outwardly through an opening in the top wall of the cover so that the case can be lifted through the medium of the sewing machine by lifting the machine by way of the handle.

Claim 3
Dependent Claim 41 words
A case as defined in claim 1, wherein said base further comprises a closure for said window, said closure being movable with respect to said bottom wall between first and second positions in which said window is respectively exposed and closed.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 40 words
A case as defined in claim 1, wherein said base has a compartment laterally adjacent to the bed of the sewing machine in said case, said compartment being open at the top and being accessible upon lifting of said cover.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 160 words
A case for a portable sewing machine of the type having a work supporting bed, parts mounted on and extending above said bed and a handle mounted on said parts and wherein a mechanism is mounted at the underside of said bed, said case comprising a hollow base having an open top and being arranged to receive the bed of a sewing machine, said base including a bottom wall having a window in register with the mechanism at the underside of the bed of the machine in this case; means for securing said base to the bed therein; and a cover at least partially surrounding the parts of a machine whose bed is supported by said base, said cover having an opening through which the handle of the machine whose bed is supported by said base extends so that the case can be lifted through the medium of the machine therein by lifting the machine by way of the handle.
Claim 6
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 247 words
A case of a portable sewing machine of the type having a work supporting bed, parts mounted on and extending above said bed, said parts including a standard secured to the bed, a bracket secured to the standard and spaced apart from the bed and a flywheel mounted on said standard adjacent said bracket, and a handle mounted on the top of the bracket, wherein a mechansim is mounted at the underside of said bed, said case comprising a hollow base having an open top defined by an upper marginal portion and being arranged to receive the bed of a sewing machine, said base having in a bottom wall thereof a window in register with the mechanism at the underside of the bed and having holes; a separate cover at least partially surrounding the parts of the machine, said cover having an opening through which the handle of the machine, whose bed is supported by said base, extends so that the case can be lifted through the medium of the machine therein by lifting of the machine by way of the handle, said cover having a second opening for said flywheel, said cover having a lower open end defining by a lower marginal portion abutting against said upper marginal portion of said base without being fastened thereto; and means for securing said base to said bed comprising a plurality of threaded fasteners, said threaded fasteners extending through said holes of said base and meshing with said bed.
Claim 8
