Novel polycarbon stabilizers

Claim 2

A composition of matter having the following structural formula: ##STR36## wherein: (1) R is selected from the group consisting of --H, C 1 -C 18 alkyl groups, and an aryl group; (2) X is selected from the group consisting of ##STR37## wherein A is a C 1 -C 16 alkylene or an arylene group; (3) Y is --C--; (4) z is selected from the group consisting of ##STR38## wherein R 2 is --H or a C 1 -C 18 alkyl group, and O--R 3 wherein R 3 is a C 1 -C 18 alkyl group; and (5) n is a value ranging from 1 to about 15.

Claim 3

The composition according to claim 1 wherein R is selected from the group consisting of --H and C 1 -C 18 alkyl groups.

The composition according to claim 1 wherein X is ##STR39##

Claim 5

The composition according to claim 1 wherein Z is ##STR40## wherein R 2 is selected from the group consisting of --H and C 1 -C 18 alkyl groups.

Claim 6

A composition of matter having the following structural formula: ##STR41## wherein: (1) R is selected from the group consisting of --H and C 1 -C 18 alkyl groups; (2) R 2 is selected from the group consisting of --H and C 1 -c 18 alkyl groups; ##STR42## (4) Y is --C-- and (5) n is a value ranging from 1 to about 15.

Claim 7

A composition of matter having the following structural formula: ##STR41## wherein: (1) R is selected from the group consisting of --H and C 1 -C 18 alkyl groups; (2) R 2 is selected from the group consisting of --H and C 1 -c 18 alkyl groups; ##STR42## (4) Y is --C-- and (5) n is a value ranging from 1 to about 15.

Claim 8

The composition according to claim 5 wherein R 2 is a C 1 -C 8 alkyl group.

Claim 9

The composition according to claim 5 wherein R 2 is --H.

Claim 10

The composition according to claim 5 wherein X is butylidene group.

Claim 11

The composition according to claim 5 wherein X is a propylene group.

Claim 12

The composition according to claim 5 wherein n is a value ranging from 3 to 8.

Claim 13

The composition according to claim 10 wherein n is a value ranging from 4 to 6.

Claim 14

A composition of matter having the following structural formula: ##STR43## wherein n is a value ranging from 3 to 8.

A composition of matter having the following structural formula: ##STR43## wherein n is a value ranging from 3 to 8.

Claim 16

The composition according to claim 12 wherein n is a value ranging from 4 to 6.

Claim 17

A composition of matter comprising an oxidatively degradable hydrocarbon and an effective amount of a stabilizer having the following structural formula: ##STR44## wherein: (1) R is selected from the group consisting of --H, C 1 -C 18 alkyl groups, and an aryl group; (2) X is selected from the group consisting of ##STR45## wherein A is a C 1 -C 16 alkylene or an arylene group; (3) Y is --C--; (4) z is selected from the group consisting of ##STR46## wherein R 2 is --H or a C 1 -C 18 alkyl group, and --O--R 3 wherein R 3 is a C 1 -C 18 alkyl group; and (5) n is a value ranging from 1 to about 15.

Claim 18

A composition of matter comprising an oxidatively degradable hydrocarbon and an effective amount of a stabilizer having the following structural formula: ##STR44## wherein: (1) R is selected from the group consisting of --H, C 1 -C 18 alkyl groups, and an aryl group; (2) X is selected from the group consisting of ##STR45## wherein A is a C 1 -C 16 alkylene or an arylene group; (3) Y is --C--; (4) z is selected from the group consisting of ##STR46## wherein R 2 is --H or a C 1 -C 18 alkyl group, and --O--R 3 wherein R 3 is a C 1 -C 18 alkyl group; and (5) n is a value ranging from 1 to about 15.

Claim 19

The composition according to claim 14 wherein said hydrocarbon is selected from the group consisting of polyolefins, polyvinyl chloride, elastomers, polycarbonate plastics, lubricants, fuels, naphtha, greases, waxes and petroleum resins.

Claim 20

The composition according to claim 14 which comprises an effective amount of a co-stabilizer selected from the group consisting of dialkyl sulfides having the structural formulas of ##STR47## wherein R 3 is a C 1 -C 30 alkyl group.

Claim 21

A composition of matter which comprises: (a) an oxidatively degradable hydrocarbon selected from the group consisting of polyolefins, polyvinyl chloride, elastomers, polycarbonate plastics, lubricants, fuels, naphtha, greases, waxes and petroleum resins; (b) an effective amount of a co-stabilizer selected from the group consisting of dialkyl sulfides having the structural formulas of ##STR48## wherein R 3 is a C 1 -C 30 alkyl group; and (c) an effective amount of stabilizer having the following structural formula: ##STR49## wherein: (1) R is selected from the group consisting of --H and C 1 -C 18 alkyl groups; (2) R 2 is selected from the group consisting of --H and C 1 -C 18 alkyl groups; ##STR50## (4) Y is --C-- and (5) n is a value ranging from 1 to about 15.

Claim 22

A composition of matter which comprises: (a) an oxidatively degradable hydrocarbon selected from the group consisting of polyolefins, polyvinyl chloride, elastomers, polycarbonate plastics, lubricants, fuels, naphtha, greases, waxes and petroleum resins; (b) an effective amount of a co-stabilizer selected from the group consisting of dialkyl sulfides having the structural formulas of ##STR48## wherein R 3 is a C 1 -C 30 alkyl group; and (c) an effective amount of stabilizer having the following structural formula: ##STR49## wherein: (1) R is selected from the group consisting of --H and C 1 -C 18 alkyl groups; (2) R 2 is selected from the group consisting of --H and C 1 -C 18 alkyl groups; ##STR50## (4) Y is --C-- and (5) n is a value ranging from 1 to about 15.

Claim 23

The composition according to claim 17 which comprises an effective amount of a photochemical costabilizer selected from the group consisting of aliphatic and aromatic phosphites.

Claim 24

The composition according to claim 17 wherein said hydrocarbon is a polyolefin.

Claim 25

The composition according to claim 17 wherein said co-stabilizer is a dialkyl sulfide having the structural formula of ##STR51##

Claim 26

A composition of matter which comprises: (a) a polyolefin; (b) from about 0.05 to about 1.0 weight percent of a dialkyl sulfide having the structural formula of ##STR52## wherein R 3 is a C 1 -C 30 alkyl group; and (c) from about 0.01 to about 1.0 weight percent, based on said polyolefin, of a stabilizer having the structural formula of ##STR53## wherein n is a value ranging from 3 to 8.

Claim 27

A composition of matter which comprises: (a) a polyolefin; (b) from about 0.05 to about 1.0 weight percent of a dialkyl sulfide having the structural formula of ##STR52## wherein R 3 is a C 1 -C 30 alkyl group; and (c) from about 0.01 to about 1.0 weight percent, based on said polyolefin, of a stabilizer having the structural formula of ##STR53## wherein n is a value ranging from 3 to 8.

Claim 28

The composition according to claim 21 wherein said polyolefin is polypropylene.

Claim 29

The composition according to claim 21 wherein said polyolefin is polyethylene.

Claim 30

The composition according to claim 21 wherein said dialkyl sulfide is distearyl thiodipropionate.

Claim 31

The composition according to claim 21 wherein n is a value ranging from 4 to 6.

Claim 32

The composition according to claim 24 which comprises from about 0.01 to about 1.0 weight percent of tris-(nonylphenyl)-phosphite.
