Silver halide photographic emulsion sensitized with a mixture of oxacarbocyanine dyes

Claim 2

A silver halide photographic emulsion containing in combination at least one of the sensitizing dyes expressed by the following general formula (I) and at least one of the sensitizing dyes expressed by the following general formula (II): ##STR28## wherein Z 1 represents a methyl or ethyl group, R 1 and R 2 each represent an alkyl or sulfoalkyl group, X 1 - represents acid anions, and n represents an integer of 1 or 2, but n is 1 when the sensitizing dye forms an intramolecular salt; ##STR29## wherein Z 2 represents a lower alkyl group, W 1 and W 2 each represent a hydrogen or halogen atom or an alkyl group, W 3 and W 4 each represent a hydrogen or halogen atom or an alkyl, alkoxy, hydroxy or phenyl group, where W 3 and W 4 may be joined to form a benzene ring, but at least one of said W 1 , W 2 , W 3 and W 4 is a halogen atom, R 3 and R 4 each represent an alkyl, sulfoalkyl or carboxyalkyl group, X 2 - represents acid anions, and m represents an integer of 1 or 2, but m is 1 when the sensitizing dye forms an intramolecular salt.

Claim 3

A silver halide photographic emulsion containing in combination at least one of the sensitizing dyes expressed by the following general formula (I), at least one of the sensitizing dyes expressed by the following general formula (II) and at least one of the sensitizing dyes expressed by the following general formula (III): ##STR30## wherein Z 1 represents a methyl or ethyl group, R 1 and R 2 each represent an alkyl or sulfoalkyl group, X 1 - represents acid anions, and n represents an integer of 1 or 2, but n is 1 when the sensitizing dye forms an intramolecular salt; ##STR31## wherein Z 2 represents a lower alkyl group, W 1 and W 2 each represent a hydrogen or halogen atom or an alkyl group, W 3 and W 4 each represent a hydrogen or halogen atom or an alkyl, alkoxy, hydroxy or phenyl group, where W 3 and W 4 may be joined to form a benzene ring, but at least one of said W 1 , W 2 , W 3 and W 4 is a halogen atom, R 3 and R 4 each represent an alkyl, sulfoalkyl or carboxyalkyl group, X 3 - represents acid anions, and m represents an integer of 1 or 2, but m is 1 when the sensitizing dye forms an intramolecular salt; ##STR32## wherein Z 3 represents a methyl or ethyl group, R 5 and R 6 each represent an alkyl or sulfoalkyl group, X 3 - represents acid anions, and l represents an integer of 1 or 2, but l is 1 when the sensitizing dye forms an intramolecular salt.

Claim 4

A silver halide photographic emulsion containing in combination at least one of the sensitizing dyes expressed by the following general formula (I), at least one of the sensitizing dyes expressed by the following general formula (II) and at least one of the sensitizing dyes expressed by the following general formula (III): ##STR30## wherein Z 1 represents a methyl or ethyl group, R 1 and R 2 each represent an alkyl or sulfoalkyl group, X 1 - represents acid anions, and n represents an integer of 1 or 2, but n is 1 when the sensitizing dye forms an intramolecular salt; ##STR31## wherein Z 2 represents a lower alkyl group, W 1 and W 2 each represent a hydrogen or halogen atom or an alkyl group, W 3 and W 4 each represent a hydrogen or halogen atom or an alkyl, alkoxy, hydroxy or phenyl group, where W 3 and W 4 may be joined to form a benzene ring, but at least one of said W 1 , W 2 , W 3 and W 4 is a halogen atom, R 3 and R 4 each represent an alkyl, sulfoalkyl or carboxyalkyl group, X 3 - represents acid anions, and m represents an integer of 1 or 2, but m is 1 when the sensitizing dye forms an intramolecular salt; ##STR32## wherein Z 3 represents a methyl or ethyl group, R 5 and R 6 each represent an alkyl or sulfoalkyl group, X 3 - represents acid anions, and l represents an integer of 1 or 2, but l is 1 when the sensitizing dye forms an intramolecular salt.

Claim 5

The silver halide photographic emulsion according to claim 1, wherein Z 1 and Z 2 each represent an ethyl group.

Claim 6

The silver halide photographic emulsion according to claim 2, wherein Z 1 , Z 2 and Z 3 each represent an ethyl group.

Claim 7

The silver halide photographic emulsion according to claim 1, wherein the combined amount of the sensitizing dyes respectively expressed by general formulas (I) and (II) ranges from 10 to 500 mg per one mole of silver halide.

Claim 8

The silver halide photographic emulsion according to claim 2, wherein the combined amount of the sensitizing dyes respectively expressed by general formulas (I), (II) and (III) ranges from 10 to 600 mg per one mole of silver halide.

Claim 9

The silver halide photographic emulsion according to claim 1, wherein the amount ratio (by mole) of the sensitizing dyes expressed by general formulas (I) and (II) is 1:0.1 to 1:8.

Claim 10

The silver halide photographic emulsion according to claim 2, wherein the amount ratio (by mole) of the sensitizing dyes expressed by general formulas (I), (II) and (III) is (1 to 8) : (1 to 8) : (1 to 8).

Claim 13

The silver halide photographic emulsion according to claim 1, wherein the silver halide is silver bromide, silver chloride, silver iodobromide, silver chlorobromide or silver chloroiodobromide.

Claim 14

The silver halide photographic emulsion according to claim 2, wherein the silver halide is silver bromide, silver chloride, silver iodobromide, silver chlorobromide or silver chloroiodobromide.

Claim 15

The silver halide photographic emulsion according to claim 1, wherein the emulsion contains 4-hydroxy-6-methyl-1,3,3a,7-tetrazinedene and 1-phenyl-5-mercaptotetrazole.

Claim 16

The silver halide photographic emulsion according to claim 2, wherein the emulsion contains 4-hydroxy-6-methyl-1,3,3a,7-tetrazinedene and 1-phenyl-5-mercaptotetrazole.

Claim 17

The silver halide photographic emulsion according to claim 1, wherein the emulsion contains a pyrazolone color coupler.

Claim 18

The silver halide photographic emulsion according to claim 2, wherein the emulsion contains a pyrazolone color coupler.

Claim 19

The silver halide photographic emulsion according to claim 1, wherein the emulsion contains a hydroquinone derivative.

Claim 20

The silver halide photographic emulsion according to claim 2, wherein the emulsion contains a hydroquinone derivative.

Claim 21

The silver halide photographic emulsion according to claim 1, wherein the emulsion comprises a development inhibitor releasing compound which has a 1-phenyl-5-mercaptotetrazolyl group therein.

Claim 22

The silver halide photographic emulsion according to claim 2, wherein the emulsion comprises a development inhibitor releasing compound which has a 1-phenyl-5-mercaptotetrazolyl group therein.

Claim 23

The silver halide photographic emulsion according to claim 1, wherein the emulsion contains a silver iodobromide containing iodine at a content from about 3 mole% to 8 mole%.

Claim 24

The silver halide photographic emulsion according to claim 2, wherein the emulsion contains a silver iodobromide containing iodine at a content from about 3 mole% to 8 mole%.

Claim 25

The silver halide photographic emulsion according to claim 1, wherein the emulsion is chemically sensitized with a sulfur sensitizer, a selenium sensitizer, a noble metal sensitizer or a reducing agent.

Claim 26

The silver halide photographic emulsion according to claim 2, wherein the emulsion is chemically sensitized with a sulfur sensitizer, a selenium sensitizer, a noble metal sensitizer or a reducing agent.

Claim 27

A color photographic material comprising at least one layer containing the silver halide photographic emulsion of claim 1.

Claim 28

A color photographic material comprising at least one layer containing the silver halide photographic emulsion of claim 2.
