Abstract

Abstract A vibration densitometer which can be calibrated to an accuracy never before possible, i.e. to within an error of 0.25 percent or less, and in two fluids or gases or gas mixtures, one, both or none being an elemental fluid or gas. The fluids or gases or fluid or gas mixtures have different density equations DI = AiTi2 - i Bi DJ = AjTj2 - Bj THE FIRST OF WHICH IS CONVERTED BY DELTA Ti, an extremely linear function of container or pipeline pressure, such that DJ = Ai(Ti - DELTA Ti)2 - Bi.

Total Claims: 5
Claim 1
Independent Claim 248 words
A densitometer comprising: a probe assembly having a structure to be vibrated while immersed in both a calibration fluid i and a fluid of use j different from said fluid i; a loop circuit connected from and to said probe assembly forming an electromechanical oscillator therewith, said loop circuit having an output lead and first means for producing a rectangular wave thereon of a predetermined frequency directly proportional to the vibrational frequency of said structure, said predetermined frequency being the reciprocal of the period T i for a density d i of said fluid i in a first equation, d.sub.i = A.sub.i T.sub.i.sup.2 - B.sub.i where A i and B 1 are constants, said predetermined frequency being the reciprocal of the period T j for a density d j of said fluid j in a second equation, d.sub.j = A.sub.j T.sub.j.sup.2 - B.sub.j where A j and B j are constants, said first and second equations accurately defining said densities d i and d j as functions of said periods T i and T j , respectively; second means actuable to produce an output signal ΔT i which is a function of the pressure of said fluid i; and computer means for solving a third equation, d.sub.j = A.sub.i (T.sub.i - ΔT.sub.i).sup.2 - B.sub.i for d j as a function of T i and ΔT i and to produce an output signal d j which is effectively the same as said d j term in said second equation.

Claim 3
Dependent Claim 44 words
The invention as defined in claim 1, wherein said second means includes a pressure sensor for producing an output signal directly proportional to ΔT i , said computer means including switch means connected from said pressure sensor selectively actuable to render ΔT.sub.i = 0
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 21 words
The invention as defined in claim 2, wherein ΔT i is a linear function of the pressure of said fluid i.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 21 words
The invention as defined in claim 1, wherein ΔT i is a linear function of the pressure of said fluid i.
