Claim 1
Independent Claim
69 words
A method of producing a polyhydric alcohol comprising hydrogenating a solution of a monose in the presence of a catalyst consisting essentially of Ni and Fe in the ratio from 24:1 to 1:1 at a temperature of from 20° to 120° C. and a hydrogen pressure of 10 to 80 kg/cm 2 , the catalyst being obtained by aqueous caustic leaching of an alloy of nickel, aluminum and iron.
