Abstract

Abstract A well service valve used primarily for the injection of closely controlled batches of well treating fluids into low pressure formations utilizes a biased one-way flow valve in a tubing string to hold the treating fluid in the column until the tubing is pressurized to open the valve and expose flow ports in the wall of the tubing to the formation. A partial pressure-balancing of the flow valve allows the use of a lower biasing force in the flow valve, thereby greatly increasing the reliability and useful life of the valve.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 5
Claim 1
Independent Claim 230 words
A hydraulically actuated well treating valve for location in a tubing string in a low pressure well and for injecting fluids into a well formation, said valve comprising: elongated generally tubular housing means adapted to be connected to a tubing string; valve seat means inside said housing and having a flow passage therethrough; a valve member slidably located in said housing and arranged for sealing abutment in said flow passage in said seat means in one position of said valve member; biasing means urging said valve member into abutment in said seat means flow passage; flow exit means through the wall of said housing means below said seat means; a first pressure response area on said valve member arranged to be exposed to fluid pressure in the tubing string through said flow passage in said seat means and further arranged to apply said pressure toward moving said valve member out of said seat means flow passage; a second pressure response area on said valve member, of less cross-sectional area than said first pressure response area, and opposed to said first pressure response area; seal means between said valve member and said housing, and located between said first and second pressure response areas; and, pressure bypass means arranged to continuously communicate fluidic pressure from the tubing string above said valve member to said second pressure response area around said seal means.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 230 words

Claim 3
Dependent Claim 35 words
The well treating valve of claim 1 wherein said first pressure response area is at the top of said valve member and said second pressure response area is near the bottom of said valve member.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 48 words
The well treating valve of claim 2 further comprising pressure chamber isolation means in said housing arranged to form a pressure reaction chamber about said second pressure response area, said chamber isolation means having seal means arranged to prevent fluid flow thereoutof past said second pressure response area.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 36 words
The well treating valve of claim 3 wherein said pressure bypass means comprises an enclosed flow passage communicating from the inner bore of said housing means above said valve seat means to said pressure reaction chamber.
