An aqueous shampoo composition with curl retention properties which comprises as the major cleansing agent component an amphoteric detergent and minor amounts of a nonionic detergent and a combination of chamomile extract with urea or thiourea, said urea or thiourea being in the range of about 1 percent to 3 percent and said chamomile as a 25 percent extract being in a ratio in the range of 3 to 2 to said urea or thiourea.
