Abstract
Abstract Novel Mono- and di-basic aluminum salts of 2-(3-phenoxyphenyl)-and 2-(3-phenylthiophenyl)alkanoic acids provide tasteless and practically water insoluble forms of said alkanoic acids, which have anti-inflammatory activity in mammals, for formulating pharmaceutical suspensions.

A compound of the formula: (R.sub.1).sub.n -Al-(OH).sub.3-n wherein: n is 1 or 2; and R 1 is the moiety ##SPC2## wherein: p is 0, 1, 2, or 3; X is oxygen or sulfur; R 2 is hydrogen, C 1 -C 5 alkyl, C 2 -C 5 alkenyl, C 2 -C 5 alkynyl, or C 3 -C 6 cycloalkyl; and Y 1 and Y 2 are, independently, hydrogen, hydroxy, halo, C 1 -C 3 alkyl, or C 1 -C 3 alkoxy, but Y 2 is hydrogen when Y 1 is hydroxy or C 1 -C 3 alkoxy.
