Abstract
Abstract A curable resin composition is prepared by first reacting a low molecular weight polybutadiene resin with a polycarboxylic acid anhydride of the general formula HR1 ¦¦ C=C ¦¦ CC ANGLE ANGLE OOO and then reacting the resulting resin with a hydroxyalkyl acrylate of the general formula R2O ¦ PARALLEL CH2=C-C-O-R3-OH.

Claim 1
Independent Claim
212 words
A curable resin composition prepared by: a. reacting a low molecular weight polybutadiene homopolymer resin having an average molecular weight of between about 500 and about 10,000, a viscosity of between about 50 and about 3,000 centipoises, a cis content of between about 50% and about 95% and containing less than about 2% vinyl bonds with a polycarboxylic acid anhydride of the general formula ##EQU3## where R 1 is selected from the group consisting of H, CH 3 , and Cl in the presence of an inhibitor selected from the group consisting of particulate copper, copper salts and copper chelate complexes at a temperature of between about 120°C and about 220°C and in a weight ratio of anhydride to polybutadiene resin of between about 5.95 and about 50:50 thereby forming a modified polybutadiene resin having a shifted double bond along the polymer chain and attached anhydride groups; b. reacting said modified polybutadiene resin with a hydroxyalkyl acrylate of the general formula ##EQU4## wherein R 2 is a hydrogen or methyl group and R 3 is an alkyl group of 1 to 10 carbon atoms in a molar ratio of hydroxyalkyl acrylate to attached anhydride group of between about 25:100 and 100:100 and at a temperature of between about 80°C and about 120°C.
