Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 13
Claim 1
Independent Claim 66 words
The method of sizing paper which comprises the step of intimately dispersing within the wet pulp, prior to the ultimate conversion of said pulp into a dry web, a sizing agent which comprises the non-polymeric reaction product of maleic acid anhydride with a vinylidene olefin corresponding to ##EQU4## wherein R x and R y are alkyl radicals containing at least 5 carbon atoms in each radical.
Claim 2
Independent Claim 66 words
The method of sizing paper which comprises the step of intimately dispersing within the wet pulp, prior to the ultimate conversion of said pulp into a dry web, a sizing agent which comprises the non-polymeric reaction product of maleic acid anhydride with a vinylidene olefin corresponding to ##EQU4## wherein R x and R y are alkyl radicals containing at least 5 carbon atoms in each radical.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 18 words
The method of claim 1 in which the sizing agent is in the form of an aqueous emulsion.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 57 words
A paper product having intimately dispersed within the wet pulp thereof, prior to its conversion into a dry web, a sizing agent which comprises the non-polymeric reaction product of maleic acid anhydride with a vinylidene olefin corresponding to ##EQU5## wherein R x and R y are alkyl radicals containing at least 5 carbon atoms in each radical.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 57 words
A paper product having intimately dispersed within the wet pulp thereof, prior to its conversion into a dry web, a sizing agent which comprises the non-polymeric reaction product of maleic acid anhydride with a vinylidene olefin corresponding to ##EQU5## wherein R x and R y are alkyl radicals containing at least 5 carbon atoms in each radical.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 74 words
A paper product having intimately dispersed within the wet pulp thereof, prior to its conversion into a dry web, (a) a sizing agent which comprises the non-polymeric reaction product of maleic anhydride with a vinylidene olefin corresponding to ##EQU6## wherein R x and R y are alkyl radicals containing at least 5 carbon atoms in each radical, and (b) at least 0.025%, based on the dry weight of the pulp, of a cationic agent.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 74 words
A paper product having intimately dispersed within the wet pulp thereof, prior to its conversion into a dry web, (a) a sizing agent which comprises the non-polymeric reaction product of maleic anhydride with a vinylidene olefin corresponding to ##EQU6## wherein R x and R y are alkyl radicals containing at least 5 carbon atoms in each radical, and (b) at least 0.025%, based on the dry weight of the pulp, of a cationic agent.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 37 words
The paper product of claim 4, in which said cationic agent is selected from the group consisting of alum, aluminum chloride, long chain fatty amines, substituted polyacrylamide, animal glue, polyamide polymers, cationic resins and cationic starch derivatives.
Claim 9
Independent Claim 84 words
The method of sizing paper which comprises the steps of intimately dispersing within the wet pulp, prior to the ultimate conversion of said pulp into a dry web, (a) a sizing agent which comprises the non-polymeric reaction product of maleic acid anhydride with a vinylidene olefin corresponding to ##EQU7## wherein R x and R y are alkyl radicals containing at least 5 carbon atoms in each radical, and (b) at least 0.025%, based on the weight of the dry pulp, of a cationic agent.
Claim 10
Independent Claim 84 words
The method of sizing paper which comprises the steps of intimately dispersing within the wet pulp, prior to the ultimate conversion of said pulp into a dry web, (a) a sizing agent which comprises the non-polymeric reaction product of maleic acid anhydride with a vinylidene olefin corresponding to ##EQU7## wherein R x and R y are alkyl radicals containing at least 5 carbon atoms in each radical, and (b) at least 0.025%, based on the weight of the dry pulp, of a cationic agent.
Claim 11
Dependent Claim 36 words
The method of claim 6, in which said cationic agent is selected from the group consisting of alum, aluminum chloride, long chain fatty amines, substituted polyacrylamide, animal glue, polyamide polymers, cationic resins and cationic starch derivatives.
Claim 12
Dependent Claim 24 words
The method of claim 6, in which the sizing agent has been emulsified with a surfactant prior to its dispersion within the wet pulp.
Claim 13
Dependent Claim 28 words
The method of claim 6, in which the sizing agent is the reaction product of maleic acid anhydride with a mixture of vinylidene olefins of 16-20 carbon atoms.
