Abstract

Abstract Gaseous C2-C5 olefins, either alone or in admixture with paraffins, are converted into an olefinic gasoline blending stock with a good research octane number in good yields by passage over a ZSM-5 type zeolite catalyst of controlled acidity. The catalyst must have reduced activity for cracking of n-hexane or aromatization of olefins or paraffins if it is to be useful for the purpose of this invention.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 13
Claim 1
Independent Claim 98 words
A process for producing a gasoline fraction having therein no more than about 20% by weight of aromatics, said process comprising contacting a C 2 -C 5 olefin, mixtures thereof or mixtures thereof with paraffins having from 1 to 5 carbon atoms with a crystalline aluminosilicate zeolite selected from the group consisting of ZSM-5 and ZSM-11 and having an α-value of from about 0.1 to about 120, at a WHSV of from about 0.1 to about 25 and at a temperature of from about 500°F to about 900°F, whereby said gasoline fraction containing predominantly higher olefins is obtained.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 98 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 10 words
The process of claim 1 wherein the zeolite is ZSM-5.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 15 words
The process of claim 1 wherein the α-value is from about 0.1 to about 100.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 21 words
The process of claim 1 wherein a proportion of the original cations associated with the zeolite are replaced by another cation.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 13 words
The process of claim 4 wherein the replacing cation is a metal cation.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 11 words
The process of claim 5 wherein the metal cation is nickel.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 13 words
The process of claim 1 wherein the catalyst used is in the H-form.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 11 words
The process of claim 5 wherein the replacing cation is zinc.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 11 words
The process of claim 5 wherein the replacing cation is chromium.
Claim 11
Dependent Claim 18 words
The process of claim 1 wherein the low aromatization activity is a result of steam treating the zeolite.
Claim 12
Dependent Claim 13 words
The process of claim 1 wherein the zeolite is incorporated in a matrix.
Claim 13
Dependent Claim 18 words
The process of claim 1 wherein the gasoline fraction has a research octane number of 90 or above.
